bite my plastic ass!!!
"Peppering the crowd were plenty of teenagers and younger kids, no doubt the victims of a lack of a baby sitter.
{Yeah right. Melissa, probably childless, gets her tickets from the paper.
How the heck is a parent supposed to get an additional ticket at the last minute??]
"Perhaps Saturday's rendition of "Why Don't We Get Drunk" (you know the rest) will remind parents that while the Buffett credo is about unwinding and shedding inhibitions, it shouldn't come at the expense of common sense.
But try telling that to people with shark fins on their heads.

Dear Melissa, bite my plastic ass!!!
We took our 6 yr old to her first JB show. The PHs all helped out on the lyrics to "Why Don't We Get Lunch at School," handed beachballs to her and offered to move aside so she could see. Thanks pholks!! Jimmy Buffett acknowledged the keets after that song and THANKED US FOR BRINGING THEM!! He then dedicated Jolly Mon Sing to them. There were more kids then I've ever seen, a sign of the graying of the PHs. Jim Mayer, the wonderful bass player, has a great kids album. There's a whole line of keet clothes and an album.
So please keep your self righteous, holier than thou self at home next time so there'll be another ticket available for a kid.

Phin envy?
Maybe she's just cranky because she'll never make that kind of money doing something *she* loves.
Ironically, she seemed to find the actual music to be good; she just didn't appreciate that a) Jimmy was making money at it because b) he was giving his fans what they wanted.
Ah well...maybe she just hasn't met the right shark yet.

What do you guys think of this:
Mrs. Ruggieri (or should I say Ms.),
I would like to comment on your article about the Jimmy Buffett concert in Manassas this week. Many of my friends and I have been to shows, and personally, we find your review of the show (and the preceding festivities) quite lacking in understanding. Jimmy Buffett has created a world of free-spirits and enjoyment that many people cannot fulfill in their daily lives. In fact, he has stated that many concert-goers consider a Buffett show as a “mini-vacation” for those times when we do not have the ability to take week long trips due to work and other engagements. Therefore, I suggest you go see a show, talk to the Parrotheads that venture to the city, and attempt to have a decent time. You will be surprised at how many people enjoy each other’s company, regardless of where the other might be from, what they think about politics, or what type of food they are cooking. The camaraderie is what makes the show worth while, and then you get the joy of seeing Jimmy perform some of the music that takes us away to our own little Margaritaville, even if only for 3 hours.
As for the music, many PHans will admit that much of the early songs were centered on sex, drugs, music, and many other risqué items of conversation. If this bothers you, please borrow or pick up a copy of Jimmy’s “A Pirate Looks at 50.” Once read, you will realize that his early life reflects his music. As the music goes on, he moves to issues of fatherhood (Delaney Talk to Statues, Lone Palm, Happily Ever After (Every Now and Then), and Six String Music). These trends in his music show his switch from energetic, young musician (Why Don’t We Get Drunk, Pascagoula Run, etc.) to dedicated husband, father, and adventure-seeker. The blessing of Jimmy’s music shows that we can all relate at some point in our lives, depending on when we become PHans. I was lucky enough to get there early, and his music helps me “Survive” the daily grind of normal life. He is the one that has helped me see that after all my chores are done, we can still have fun in life.
If you have any questions about references, please feel free to visit any of the many sites relating to Buffett and his music -- Margaritaville, Buffett News, etc. We will be happy to help fill you in. Please, open your mind and try to enjoy the experience, it may help you see that life doesn’t have to be tiring all the time. And always remember, there is that One Particular Harbor to visit, even though we don’t always get there often enough. Have a very fruitful day.

What in the world are you reading?
Folks, I thought this was a great review with a little humor thrown in.
Did she make a joke at Jimmy's expense about his $$$? So what? Do we care? NO! Has he ever made a joke about the same? Yes! I have read and reread this and fail to see a problem. Did she whack on him for playing some of the same old songs again (CBIP?!--aahhh!). But would you want to go to the show and not hear Margaritaville? No and no. Describing him as singing in a "singular range"? Well, true, but it seems to me he admits as much (but where, I can't recall!). Again, do we care? NO!
I think her line "you get it or you don't" reminds me of his old album (yes, album) "You Had to Be There". And I saw him on that tour-before YHTBT was recorded, at Carolina Coliseium in Columbia SC.
So I'm not some newbie to the show or the Buffett experience.
Have you ever been to a Buffett show with someone who "doesn't get it"? I have, and let me tell you, Melissa gets it. (Oh, the agony of going to shows with those who don't get it....the stories I could tell). If she did not get it, she would have written one of those reviews with the same old cliches in it that we have seen. And I won't honor them by repeating any of that crap.
So unless someone can tell me some specifics about what you find offensive about this review, lighten up on the woman.

Re: bite my plastic ass!!!
griz asks. how do you get a ticket at the last minute?. i always buy my tix on the day of the show from people with extras. i make an offer and if they turn me down because they want more money, then i walk away and find someone else. there is always somebody willing to sell at face value because somebody else bailed out for some reason.Griz wrote:"Peppering the crowd were plenty of teenagers and younger kids, no doubt the victims of a lack of a baby sitter.
{Yeah right. Melissa, probably childless, gets her tickets from the paper.

Howdy friends and neighbors.
I did not read all the replies because they were going this way and that way. I did read the article and I want to say that I feel the author didn't have a clue. If she ever wrote an article with world breaking news I would definitely think it was a buffalo chip. I'd be willing to bet she had a "bad relationship" with a Jimmy Buffett fan. I believe that her "pay back" was this outrageously convoluted article. I hope that her newspaper has a parrothead on staff and sets her straight. Either that or circulation is down and they needed a controversial article to help sales. Either way I was able to read between the lines and get the gist of what happened at the concert. So my advice to Melissa is....get a life! ... or a different job!!!.
Indecision may or may not be my problem!

Now that I did take some time to peruse the posts I do have this to say....I took my son to his first Jimmy Buffett concert when he was 8 months old. He currently has a BS in Anthropology and is a semester away from his BA in Economics. So someone please tell me what's wrong with kids growing up with Jimmy Buffett?

What's worse?
I wonder if Mellissa would say about taking your children to see Britney Spears, who dances around with basically nothing on and has sexual innuendo in nearly every song she lipsyncs. I guarantee you, the population at Britney's concerts consists primarlily of pubescent girls, some of whom want TO BE Britney. I remember when I was in middle school how much everyone loved the Spice Girls, who weren't much better. I'm just thinking of that song, "2 bEcome 1." The lyrics were something like, "I need some love like i never needed love before. I had me love, now I'm back for more." And We didnt even know we were singing about sex!!! Sneaky seanky.
And Jimmy Buffett ISN'T ok....hmmmmm
