EASY CONCERT RECORDING USING REPLAY RADIO AND MP3 MAGIC

Post by RMM »

I am a "newbie" to this forum, but want to let people know about the software I use to get excellent copies of the concerts off of Radio Margaritaville (no, I am not connected to them in any way - just a satisfied customer).

http://www.replay-radio.com

The software has a free trial (no credit card number required) that lets you record a few minutes at a time to see if you like the quality, then dies if you don't pay $30 for it. They also have an MP3 editor, called MP3 Magic, which also has a free trial and is only $10. They also have some other programs which I don't have, but look interesting for live listening.

I have gotten excellent results with this program using MP3. WAV doesn't work very well and I don't recommend it. The sound quality I have gotten with MP3 is every bit as good as other live recordings Jimmy has released, IMHO.

Both programs are very easy to use. I have broadband and don't know if you could get a decent recording with dial-up (probably not). They have an excellent on-line manual with screen shots you can print out if you want.

To record a concert, you merely click on "Add Show". Then you pick which station or show you want to record (i.e. Radio Margaritaville MP3), the date, and time for the recording to start and stop. You also pick the "Output Option". I use MP3 - CD quality. Then click on "Okay" at the bottom and you're done. That's it!

IMPORTANT NOTE: You have to leave your computer on and the program open (it can be minimized). You don't even have to be home or in town, but the computer HAS to be on with the program open.

To use the editor, you just open it and get the concert you recorded. You can then "mark" spots for breaks or editing out. The controls have a pause and fast forward/reverse that are very easy to move forward and backward with. When you have everything marked (I usually do the concerts in two parts to put on 2 CD's), you save it. I then assemble and record it to CD with Adaptec's Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 (current version is Media Creator 7.0, now on sale at Best Buy according to today's (7-11-04) paper.

Note: I know there are other recording software and CD burner packages out there, but I am familiar with them. How about a forum on different recording and burning software?

FYI: heard the DJ say after a concert on Radio Margaritaville, they don't seem to mind you recording, but they DO mind you selling concert recordings, so DON'T. Trade ONLY and let's not let anyone screw up Jimmy letting us get these concerts for free!

I desperately want copies of the 2003 and 2004 Denver concerts, as well as copies from the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, or 2002 Bristow, VA concerts.

I have copies of Minneapolis, Bristow, Camden, Cayahuga Falls, Indy (today) and several of the "replays".
