Lyrics for LTC

Post by A1Jay »

I was looking for some lyrics for the album AND the writers of the songs?

Thanks in advance ! :D
Oh so many things I can’t remember
And way too many things I can’t forget
What time does church begin? Tell the priest I’m checking in
I want to cleanse my soul so I can do it again and again and again and again

No big deal that the lyrics weren't included in the cd jacket but I did find it strange there weren't any writing credits included!

Thanks for the link. Nice to have those.

Here are lyrics for ...

Trip around the sun
(Jimmy)
Hear 'em singing happy birthday
Better think about the wish I make
This year gone by
Ain't been a piece of cake.
(Martina)
Every day's a revolution
Pull it together and it comes undone
Just one more candle and a trip around the sun.
(Jimmy and Martina)
I'm just hanging on while this old world keeps spinning
And it's good to know it's out of my control.
If there's one thing that I've learned from all this living
Is that it wouldn't change a thing if I let go.
(Martina)
No you never see it coming,
Always wind up wondering where it went.
(Jimmy)
Only time will tell
If it was time well spent.
It's another revelation,
(Martina)
Celebrating what I should have done
With these souvenirs of my trip around the sun.
(Martina and Jimmy)
I'm just hanging on while this old world keeps spinning
And it's good to know it's out of my control.
If there's one thing I have learned from all this living
Is that it wouldn't change a thing if I let go.
(Musical bridge)

(Jimmy)
Yes I'll make a resolution
(Martina)
That I'll never make another one.
(Jimmy and Martina)
Just enjoy this ride on my
Trip around the sun.
Just enjoy this ride
on my trip around the sun. . .
trip around the sun.

Don't know if these are accurate...it's what I hear!

Window on My World
lyrics by John Hiatt

A broken promise I kept too long
A greasy shade and a curtain drawn
A broken glass and a heart gone wrong
That's my window on the world.

A cup of coffee and a shaky hand
Waking up in a foreign land
Trying to act like I got something planned
That's my window on the world.

(Chorus)
That's my window on the world
Could you stand a little closer girl?
Don't let mamma cut those curls.
That's my window on the world.

(Musical bridge)

In broad day light that circus went
Pulled up stakes I don't know where it went
Closed dark room with a busted vent.
That's my window on the world.

I think about you when I'm counting sheep.
I think about you when I can't sleep
I think the ocean is just too deep
That's my window on the world.

(Chorus)
That's my window on the world
Could you stand a little closer girl?
The Queen of Sheba meets the Duke of Earl
That's my window on the world.

(Musical bridge)

Down on Indiana Avenue
Wes and Jimmy man they played the blues.
I guess they were only passing through
That's my window on the world.

Chorus
That's my window on the world
Could you stand a little closer girl?
Don't let mamma cut those curls.
That's my window on the world.

(Chorus)
That's my window on the world
Could you stand a little closer girl?
The Queen of Sheba meets the Duke of Earl
That's my window on the world.

Simply Complicated

One two three...

When you find out things about yourself
That you hadn't ought to know
When your grandma calls and books you
on the Jerry Springer Show
And you find out you and your wife of 10 years
Just might be related
Brother, life's not over
It's just simply complicated.

There's other situations that might challenge you I guess
When your daughter tries out for the football team
And your son tries on her dress.
And you start to think that the devil's in charge
Of how you're situated.
Life is still worth living
It's just simply complicated

Life is complicated with its ifs and ands and buts
It's alright to be crazy, just don't let it drive you nuts.

My daughter wants to go on dates
I think I'll let her go.
But she better not be moving at the moving picture show.
Or stop by all those conchy tonks and get inebriated
Ain't it all a caution, it's just simply complicated.

Now I'm having a big problem with my present day career
My ship, she has a rudder, but I don't know where to steer.
Am I country, pop, or rock n roll
I know they are related
I'll just let you be the judge
It's simply complicated

Life is complicated with its ifs and ands and buts
It's alright to be crazy, just don't let it drive you nuts.

Yee haw oom pah pah

Life is complicated
Oh sh**

Coastal Confessions

Well I'm a tidal pool explorer
From the days of my misspent youth
I believe that down on the beach
Where the sea gulls preach
Is where the Chinese buried the truth.

So I dig in the sand
with my misguided hands
and if I dig deep enough
Hell I just might dig it up
Talking about treasure
talking about pleasure
talking about love

Now I'm a reader of the night sky
And a singer of inordinate tunes
That's how I float across time
Living way past my prime
Like a long lost baby's balloon.

So I hang on to the string
Work that whole gravity thing
But when my space ship goes pop
Back to the earth I will drop
Into the sea
Or the limbs of a tree
Or the wings of my love

And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Maybe invent me a story or two
I've got coastal confessions to make
How bout you how bout you?

They say that time is like a river
And stories are the key to the past
But now I'm stuck in between
here at my typing machine
Trying to come up with some words that will last.

It's so easy to see that we live history
And if I just find the beat
I know I land on my feet
I always do
Hadn't got a clue
Cause it comes from above.

And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Maybe invent me a story or two
I've got coastal confessions to make
How bout you how bout you?

Let's go to church, Sonny...

(musical bridge)

So bless me father, yes I have sinned.
Given the chance I'll probably do it again
I don't need absolution
Just a simple solution will do.

So let's talk about the future
Or the consequences of my past
I've got scars, I've got lines
I'm not hard to define
Just an altar boy covering his ass.

I know I can't run and hide
But just hang on for the ride
There will be laughter and tears
As we progress through the years
But still it's fun
Hey I'm not done
Gonna dance till I fall

And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Maybe have me a boat drink or two
It's just the coastal confessions I hear
Tell the truth
Tell the truth
I've got some coastal confessions to make
How bout you how bout you how bout you how bout you
and you and you and you
huh 42 years since my last confessions
Well father, you have the rest of the week
Let's get started
I had impure thoughts
smoked some pot
stole some peanut butter
Father, wake up.

Conky Tonkin with Clint Black

(Jimmy)
Bella was bored to death at South Beach
Not one celebrity spotted in days
She was tired of her mood
Lunchin on Vegan food
She was tired of just soakin up rays.

Then she saw him pull up to the stop light
In that ole ragtop that she couldn't name
he said hop in side
I'm heading south ..take a ride
I'm just the next man that you're gonna blame
U. S. 1
Heading down U. S. 1

(Clint)
Lenny said
How bout lunch in Key Largo?
There's a fish sandwich place down the road
Kinda out in the sticks
But we can be back by six
Never leave our area code.
Well geography wasn't her strong point
She'd never been past the Dade Land mall
So they stopped on the way
Lenny was happy to pay
For a new thong and a purple beach ball.

(Jimmy and Clint)
They're goin Conky Tonkin
Cruisin on a weekend buzz
Really Conky Tonkin
Doin it just because.

(Jimmy)
Havin' too much fun to turn back
They're explorers in a hotrod Ford
They counted sea birds and cars
Stopped at all the cool bars
(Jimmy and Clint)
Harmonically they struck a chord

(Jimmy)
Stop, what was that?

Somewhere in the middle of the seven mile bridge
He said Bella, do you wanna see the rest?
She said I haven't a care, Lenny.
Just take me there.
And they drove all the way to Key West

(Clint)
Well she'd never seen anything like it
in all of her 26 years
Bella was feeling the groove
Lenny was makin his move
They were quite a pair of pioneers.

(Jimmy and Clint)
They goin conky tonkin
cruisin down U S. 1
They'll be conky tonkin
Trying to catch up with the sun.

They're goin conky tonkin
The engine is about to explode
Goin conky tonkin'
Hey, they'll meet you at the end of the road.

End of the road...
What do you do then?
Rev it up and jump that bucket to Havana

We're goin' conky tonkin!

Playing the Loser Again with Bill Withers

(Jimmy)
Don't break my heart again
Let it end
You don't love me.

Don't make me start again
This achin in my heart.

Don't make me hope again
knowin when
you've grown tired of me,
That you'll just disappear
And leave me waiting here
Playing the loser again.

(Jimmy and ? female vocals)
Don't give me hope
and take it away,
cause I'll show my weakness
and beg you to stay.

Don't give me something to build all around
Then just for a thrill, you tear it all down.

(Bill)
Don't make me dream again
It's a sin to make love to me
and then just disappear
and leave me waiting here
playing the loser again.

(Jimmy and female vocals)
Don't give me hope
To take it away
Cause I'll show my weakness
And beg you to stay
Dont' give me something to build all around
And just for a thrill, you tear it all down.

(Jimmy)
Don't make me hope again
knowin when
you've grown tired of me,
that you'll just disappear
and leave me waiting here
playing the loser again.

Boats to build

It's time for a change
I'm tired of that same ol same
The same ol words the same ol lines
The same ol tricks and the same ol rhymes

Days precious days
Roll in and out like waves
I got boards to bend I got planks to nail
I got charts to make I got seas to sail

I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
She'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause I've got boats to build

Sails are just like wings
The wind can make em sing
Songs of life songs of hope
Songs to keep your dreams afloat

I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
She'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause I've got boats to build

Shores distant shores
There's where I'm headed for
Got the stars to guide my way
Sail into the light of day

I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
She'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause...
I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
She'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause I've got boats to build

BACK TO THE ISLAND

Now the day is done
And I sit alone and think of you girl
What would I do without you in my life

Wonderin' if you love me or
just playing a fool of me.
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

And watch the sun go down
Listen to the sea roll in
I'll be thinkin' of you
And how it might've been
Listen to the nightbird cry
Watch the sun set die
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

Threaded in my heart
Tears are falling down
I know down in my soul
I'm really gonna miss you

Caan't end this way
For all the games we've played.
So I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

And watch the sun go down
Listen to the sea roll in
I'll be thinkin' of you
And how it might've been
Listen to the nightbird cry
Watch the sun set die
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

And watch the sun go down
Listen to the sea roll in
I'll be thinkin' of you
And how it might've been
Listen to the nightbird cry
Watch the sun set die
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island
...Keepin' it Jimmy!!!

I found this exact wording at ************.com and lyricsdownload.com, and it may very well be what Leon Russell wrote. I don't know. But when I listen closely to the version from LTC, I hear this:

Now the day is gone
And I sit alone and think of you girl
What can I do without you in my life

Wonderin' if you love me or
just makin a fool of me.
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

Chorus:
And watch the sun go down
Hear the sea roll in
I'll be thinkin' of you
And how it might've been
Hear the nightbird cry
Watch the sun set down
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

For all the sunny skies
It's rainin in my heart
I know down in my soul
I'm really gonna miss you

But it can't end this way
For all the games we've played.
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island

Chorus
Chorus

I recently went to the keys - these are great lyrics. I think it's "Vegan food" instead of "beacon food". I am not a vegetarian, but I now see Vegan restaurants around town.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

This is just my opinion for what it's worth. This is all a brilliant strategy to drive the new fans to Jimmy's websites. That introduces them to the world of Jimmy Buffett and his music. The lyrics are being delayed to keep the newcomers coming back to Radio Margaritaville. We longtime fans get the studio notes online, which are incredible. It's a win-win situation!
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

Back to the Island
Now the day is gone.
And I sit alone and think of you, girl.

What can I do without you in my life?

Wondering if you love me
Or just making a fool of me.
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island.

And watch the sun go down
And watch the sun do down (backing)
Hear the sea roll in
Listen to the sea roll in (backing)
And I'll be thinking of you
Yes, and I'll be thinking of you (backing)
And how it might have been
Thinking how it might have been (backing)

Hear the nightbird cry
Listen to the nightbird cry (backing)
Watch the sun set down.
Sit and watch the sun set down. (backing)

Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island. (Jimmy and barmony vocals)

Good xylephone musical bridge

For all the sunny skies
It's raining in my heart
I know down in my soul
I'm really gonna miss you.

But it had to end this way
With all the games we played
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island (harmony vocals)

And watch the sun go down
Sit and watch the sun go down (backing)
Hear the sea roll in
Listen to the sea roll in (backing) Nadirah
Oh and I'll be thinking of you
Yes and I'll be thinking of you (backing)
And how it might have been
Thinking how it might have been (backing)

Hear the night birds cry
Listen to the nightbirds cry (backing)
Watch the sun set down
Sit and watch the sunset down (backing) sun set down
Well I hope you understand
I just had to go back to the island. (Harmony vocals.)

Sit and watch the sun go down (background)
Oh yeah (Jimmy)

Listen to the sea roll in (background)
Sea rolls in (Jimmy)

Yes and I'll be thinking of you (background)
Always thinkin of you, Baby (Jimmy)

What about me?
(More background fades out.)

The only lyrics that I'm not sure of are...
background vocals seem to sing ...
Watch the sunset die!

Piece of Work on LTC by Will Kimbrough

(Jimmy)
I’m a piece of work, I’m iron and lace
Shy, right up there in your face
I’m all dumbfounded, stubborn as an ass
Sharp as an arrow in a pile of glass.
I’m a sweetheart, genius, restless jerk
Lord have mercy, I’m a piece of work.

Well, the Lord made me on a long thin limb
Made sure I’d remember him or her
In the middle of a long, dark night
Creation crazy, death-sheet white
Made in the image of a lion shocked lamb
I am who the hell I am
Ever better, bad to worse
Down to the letter, I’m a piece of work.

(Toby K)
I’m a piece of work; I’m an angel’s fiend
Bathed in lavender and gasoline
Scared brave, shallow in an ink black well
Lightly browned in the fires of hell
Wicked, holy, full on fake
Best known for my big mistake
I’m a Zen wise, peaceful, gone berserk
Good God almighty, what a piece of work.

I’m a dreadful sight, I just don’t care
Spent all morning pulling out my hair
Woke at dawn with a crazy spin
Half the day trying to glue back in
Mother, bloody (Jimmy) Mary, please
Wipe that smile right off your knees
(Toby)I’m the CEO of the mailroom clerks
(Jimmy)Lord have mercy, what a piece of work.

Musical bridge

(Jimmy)
I’m a piece of work, I’m a lovesick boy
Cloth cap, caviar and corduroy
All over the map, just-a lost in space
With a filthy mind and a choirboy’s face
(Toby)
Heels up, head down, straight on through
Watch out woman, I’m a get to you
I’m a gladiator with a mind to irk.
(Both)
Good God almighty, I’m a piece of work.

(Toby)I’m a piece of work
(Jimmy)I’m a piece of work
(Toby) I’m a piece of work.
