[quote="Gumbo"]I think Simply Complicated is the Math Sux, I Wish Lunch Could Last Forever, or What If The Hokey Pokey Is What It Really Is About of this album.=quote]

I agree - Simply Complicated just sounds silly.

As a whole I really like the album, I think it's great that Jimmy's doing different things - sounds like he had fun on this record.

If you're waiting for another version of A1A I think you're going to be waiting for a long time.

For me its not so much who wrote the song... its the SUM of the artists performing the song. The CD as a whole sounds very Buffett. He picked the songs that he picked for a reason.

lol :D , exactly . . . . thats why you take what you get, and just appreciate that the man is still doing it. . . . hey, if I was almost 58 and a multi-millionaire, i'd be long retired! But i think the reason that he still does it, is as you said, he has fun with it.

Jimmy is not necessarily a "Cowboy in the Jungle" when it comes to country muzak. Coast of Carolina is incredible! In fact, I liked both of the tracks with Toby Keith. Simply Complicated should become the new theme song for the Jerry Springer Show... Wouldn't that be a hoot? This is a fun in the sun diversion from the abnorm, that's all. Jimmy might have to start classifying himself as a mainstream country musician if he's not careful. I was wondering about Peter Mayer's absence myself, but it's not like he doesn't have his own individual pursuits in the music biz. This CD will obviously be another huge seller among Parrotheads, but will also serve to make Bubba a household name for the unknowing who have had there heads stuck somewhere other than the sand. Two Fins up!!

Kurt, I love you man, but lets be honest. Look back at the tone and tenor of any post you have made regarding this album or the artists involved. You were not ever going to give this a chance

I couldn't agree more. Most JB music takes me to the beach. This album makes me feel like I'm sitting on my couch watching a commercial.

According to the notes on M'ville or RM (LIPH told me this earlier, I haven't had a chance to look myself yet), the recording dates conflicted with the Mayer's Christmas tour, so they couldn't do it. My guess on the horn section is that would be just too many instruments and musicians.

some good songs , some songs a little to mellow for my taste , maybe a little to country . overal not to bad . as they would say on american band stand , it has a beat and you can dance to it . overall i give it a 71/2-8. not his best work , but not awful

(1) What is IMHO?

(2) Despite what Bubba says, Frank Bama did NOT say "The best navigators never know where they are going until they get there, and then they're still not sure." It was his buddy.

(3) After listening to the special on RM the other night, I have decided to wait to buy the album. It's nothing but a bunch of covers, and although I always like the covers he does, I don't really feel the need to buy a whole album full of them. Which brings me to point (4).

(4) I hope that he doesn't win country album of the year, although I wouldn't be surprised, simply because he didn't write most of the material.

(5) This months issue of Outside has two great articles. One on Carl Hiaasen and another on Antoine de Saint Exupery.

Cubbie, I know that I have been harsh but I'm just speaking with my heart... just like when I listen to JB's music. What I WILL do is listen to the CD for the next week and then give you my take. I just can't blindly like everything just b/c it comes from an artist that I love. But like all of us, we sometimes need to know when to be a little forgiving at times. :pirate:

Will listen more and till then...

Baffling

I don't really get some of the things I read. There seems to be some folks who were just waiting to tell us how bad an album it is. I am not saying there can't be different opinions but longing for the Buffett of the 70's? I want to be 21 again but it isn't going to happen. Upset he didn't write the songs himself? Who cares? Upset that so many other stars are on the album? Who cares?

As I have stated elsewhere, in my humble little opinion this is the best Buffett album in years. The closest to his roots I have seen for a long long time. I was prepared to be disapointed and coulnd't be more wrong.

It's 2004 folks and Jimmy has still got it.

Jimmy is just out there havin fun and singin away...hes doin it cuz it makes him happy... and like he always said when it stops being fun he wont do it anymore. personally i think that is awesome and it makes me enjoy his music 10 times more. if ya dont like it, then dont listen to it. i for one love the new album think it is great and fun to listen too. no its not his best work but come on now its gonna take a lot to top his previous stuff. i heard on the radio the other day that jimmy only does 3 or 4 takes of his songs cuz thats all he needs. hes not in there tryin to top any charts or blow peoples minds with the stuff he writes. hes having fun and i'm having fun listenin to it and thats all that matters.

It is the same as everything in this world - some like some things, others dont - it is a fact of life.

I "don't" think I am going to be overly fond of it - purely cause it is not my preferred music (ie a country flavour) - but, there are going to be others that love it - such is life - I have no idea why there are so many threads on who likes and it who doesnt - there are going to be people on either side of the fence for anything he does!

didn't like the clips weeks ago---liked the cd less, after picking it up yesterday-- maybe cuz i don't like country, even though i am going to jamboree in hills tomorrow---thought that Jimmy was great at nissen july 3rd---but he was himself then--ltc is not what made me a buffett fan-------senior parrott head---growing older, but not up

I like it alot. Sonny Landreath is tremendous. I don't think the album sounds very different or "country"at all. I love Window of the World and the collaborations sound great. I'm not a Clint Black fan, though I heard he is a really nice guy. And Toby Kieth is as regular as you can get.

Those that think it's too country might want to brush up on their Buffett history.
I recommend any cd from the 70s (ie Havana Daydreamin', A1A, Living and Dying etc).
"Riddles" and "Last Mango" from the 80s are country too,
Fruitcakes and Beach House from the 90s have some country in them as well as Far Side of the World.
Throw a few more in here and there and you'll be set.

Personally I think this is his best cd since Banana Wind.
It sounds like Jimmy Buffett through and through, not just country but rock n soul. All of that and then some.
