I like the song..I just dont like Nanci Griffith on that..It would of sounded better with one of the reeferettes...but I think its a great album over all

playin it right now

Jimmy's having fun and that's all that matters!

I'm not a big country music fan, but I am a HUGE fan of Jimmy. I am keeping on open mind regarding LTC. Some of the songs I like, some of them are a little too country-ish for my blood. But the important thing to remember is that Jimmy is having fun and thoroughly loving every minute it. Just for those reasons alone, we should be happy for Jimmy!!! Just like every other Jimmy Buffett CD I have bought, I'll listen to LTC over and over again until I have all the songs memorized and can sing them along with Jimmy at the top of my lungs!

I really have the feeling that there are alot of people nowadays that just dismiss a new Jimmy Cd because it wasnt made in the 70's without giving it a chance... i think alot of people think that nothing Jimmy can do now can be viewed as a classic.. and i gaurentee that if Coast of Carolina was on A1A it would be up there with Tin Cup Chalice for Parrotheads... and if a song like Gods Own Drunk was on LTC it would be viewed as one of those goofy bad Jimmy songs like Math Sux..and just on the basis that one was made in the 70's and the other isn't
I believe songs like CoC and Coastal confessions ARE up there with Tin Cup and those on A1A... and i think that if alot of these "old school- nit picking" parrotheads would just listin to this Cd for what it is they too would realize how good it really is.

I think alot of people are judging this album harder because it has the tag "country" and alot of people hate country because they think they should. To
me the album sounds less and less country with each spin. I like all music even country if its good, I think there are just to many music bigots out there.

Hello all. This is my first time contributing to a discussion on this website, but after reading the comments about Buffett's new album, I had to jump in.
You'll have to take my comments with a grain of salt (or should I say sand?) due to the fact that I am a country fan. Those Parrotheads who dislike Buffett returning to his country roots are most likely the majority of those who dislike this album. That's understandable, but one cannot deny the thick country influence that has been in his music on every album with songs ranging from "God Don't Own a Car" and "The Wino and I know" to "Last Man Standing." I still have difficulty with people stating that they dislike country but love Buffett…I have the same issue with those who claim to hate country but crank up Garth’s “Friends in Low Places.” I’m sure you know those people, hey, you may even be one.
I think with Buffett's mega-success with Alan Jackson, he relished the opportunity to return to his roots. The island sound is still there, though, so Buffett-but-not-country fans must at least appreciate a song like “Back to the Island.” He closed with that at Alpine Valley and it was almost as perfect a closing as “Tonight I Just Need My Guitar.”
I adore this album. I so agree with an earlier post that Nanci Griffith’s voice is somewhat uncomfortable to listen to, but the song is still strong. All of the other contributing voices are stellar, especially Toby Keith. That man is gold right now. The compilation of all of the guys on “Hey Good Lookin’” is frickin’ fantastic. I think the songs perfectly represent the artist that is Jimmy Buffett. Some are poignant and some are silly, but they all feel like they belong in Bubba’s repertoire.
Some of you disliked “Sea of Heartbreak,” but I find that to be one of my favorite songs. Both Buffett’s and Strait’s voices reflect the anguish contained in the song, and the music itself reminds me of a soulful blues song from decades ago. Younger listeners may hear the song and gag, thinking that this is something their parents would listen to…and they’re right. Buffett’s audience ranges from teenagers to those who have been with him since the seventies, so you have to expect that range to be represented on his albums. He does this perfectly on this album, and “Sea of Heartbreak” helps.
I will completely agree that this album is mellower than previous efforts, but you have to expect that. Buffett’s continually becoming more reflective in his music, and I do not expect him to bust out songs about drinking tequila and robbing fillin’ stations anymore. He even states on the album that the time he used to go to bed is the time he now wakes up (forgot the exact terms). The man’s music is evolving with him, and to be cliché, I think they’re both aging like wine.
Here’s my top five from this album in no particular order:
Back to the Island
Sea of Heartbreak
Coast of Carolina
Hey Good Lookin’
Piece of Work
Sorry for the length of this…if you stuck with me all the way to here, I appreciate it. I promise to write no more novels.

Very well said, and welcome new guy. Please contribute often.
In addition to the above. I do not understand this fixation with it having to be written by Jimmy to be any good. (Help me out here Lee) If you can find me another muscian (other than maybe Willie Nelson) who has recorded more of his own work, you've got too much time on your hands. Over 30 years, 30 some odd albums, I think he has earned the right to record songs he likes for Himself.
Is it country. is it mellow, is it different, YES YES YES. Lets stop trying to disect this thing to shreads and take it for what it is. It's a freaking album JIMMY wanted to do

honestly, i think this album falls right in line with beach house on the moon, which to me is not one of his better albums.but then again, this album is hard to even call a jimmy buffett album when its got so many guest vocalists, cover songs, and the absence of core coral reefer band members.to me this is like a side project that i hope is a one off kind of thing.i also think his vocals aren't nearly as strong as they were on both far side of the world and the new songs on meet me in margaritaville.

It comes back to the classic argument: if he releases an album with a lot of old favorites along with some new stuff, he gets slammed by somebody for not recording anything new; if he records new stuff that sound vaguely familiar, then he's stuck in his 30 year rut; if he records all new songs, then he's ignoring what the phans want.
As a whole I liked the album--didn't think I would, but I did. I agree with Case: put some of these tracks on a 'classic' 1970's album and they'd be part of the Buffett cannon. I also agree with our new friend: Jimmy has always been country.
IMHO, Bubba has been on a 30 year run. Has he petered out? Hell, no. Has he proven that he can 'play all his hunches'? I think so. Has he shown, over the decades, that he can do what he feels moved to do and there will be people who love it and people who hate it? Always.
Count me in the love it.
But then again, Altered Boy is my anthem.

I guess Im in the MINORITY... I dont think LTC is mellower... I think it rocks more then the last.
NOT TO PUT DOWN ANY CORAL REEFERS> But this CD rocks in part because of Sonny Londreths & Bill Paynes presence on most of the tracks.
I am a HUGE Little Feat fan... but IMHO their last studio CD missed the LF mark for me.
On LTC I hear alot of tunes that could easily be on a Little Feat CD.
I dont own any country CD's and dont ever listen to country radio. And i dont hear much country in LTC... I guess listening to LF for so many years has gotten me acustomed to the style of music that is on LTC.
Great job Jimmy!!
Guess what the alternative to Jimmy NOT doing what he wants(covers, country, duets, writing less)
Can you guess???? HE QUITS!!! which is better??

Ditto...well said. I was thinking there are some definite sounds of Southern rock on LTC. And it was obvious he was having fun doing it...which, last time I checked, was supposed to be the pont.

Overall, I don't like the album. My opinion:
If I want to hear Kenny Chesney, I will buy a Chesney album.
If I want to hear Clint Black, I will buy a Clint Black album.
If I want to hear Martina McBride, I will buy a Martina McBride album.
OK, I was lying, if I want to hear Buffett, I will buy Chesney's latest album.
The best song on this album is his cover of a Dead song. The second best is his cover of a Hank, Jr. song.
One of the reasons I always loved Buffett was for his lyrics. More and more, I think that Mac's lyrics are surpassing Buffett's (see, i.e., "Semi-True Stories").
As for LTC, I am going to pick a couple of songs off of it and burn them with some of Chesney songs and some of Mac's songs, and then throw this album in the corner never to be seen again.

I have to say after buying the last few studio albums (including LTC) they seem to sound more like Mac McAnally's music with a little bit of Buffett flair (i.e. Robert G, Ralph, and Nadirah)
I am not a huge Mac fan and he is a great writer, but it would be nice to see more Buffettesque albums generally speaking before Mac was around.

As a 27 year old, "old school- nit picking" parrothead, I obviously prefer the old stuff over the new. I'm like that with all the music I listen too. I do, however, give the new music a chance. It wouldn't be fair to Jimmy if I didn't.
