Amazon Pre-order of LTC Arrives- Goodman review by weekend
I was pretty rough on Amazon in an earlier post. My son called to tell me that LTC arrived today. Not too shabby. From all the chatter here it seems that everybody but me has listened. I'll weigh in slow and steady with the other dinosaur Parrotheads. I'm already upset to hear that writers credits were not given (Boats to Build- Guy Clark). I think it's a sign of the times we live in friends and neighbors.

I'm with you on the writing credits. As I said in another thread, even MCA's crappy CDCP CDs, which included barely any notes, have songwriting credits included. I didn't think you could not credit the writers, especailly with all the covers.
Also, its the first JB Studio album since Havana Daydreamin' not to include printed lyrics (based on first pressings). I found that strange.

Goodman - what happend to the self control?????
Most folks don't give a second thought to when they're gonna listen to a new album or CD. I know I never really did. This year is special. Late August I gotta take my daughter to upstate NY to college. It's a 300 mile journey. What a perfect time to debut the new JB CD. Mind you, I did wind up pre-ordering at AMAZON so I'll probably have my license in hand by the end of July. Sure it's a lot of self control to exercise but some things need to be special.

I also find it more than a bit odd that the writers aren't credited and lyrics aren't included especially given the elaborate packaging of the album. The part that holds the foldout poster seems like it would have been the perfect place for a booklet. My first thought is that in this age of the internet Buffett counted on most fans checking the License To Chill portion of Margaritaville.com for further info (and I see from a few posts some are doing just that). Another thought that crossed my mind was that more info might be provided if the CD was interactive (another trademark of most of his recent releases) but I haven't tried it myself. I think if it were interactive someone would have mentioned it by now. It is nice that he provided all the info at Margaritaville.com to help compliment the album but the downside is, not everyone has the internet.

You make some good points Jahfin. For what it's worth, here's my opinion - that and a quarter might still get you a beer somewhere.
This new release is all about pulling brand new fans into the world that is Jimmy Buffett. The pull-out poster tells a great story in classic Jimmy style. People are reading it while listening for the first time and going "Wow - this is really cool!"
The CD package says plain and simple, go to Radio Margaritaville for Jimmy's Studio Notes. It's a little tricky to find, so people are exploring the site. They're finding out about the concert broadcasts, they're starting to listen online and they're hearing vintage Buffett they've never heard before - all of this without spending an extra dime. A lot of them bought their CD's at WalMart for $10 and they're getting hooked on Jimmy Buffett!
Once found the popups are cool and easy to use, and people will like them. I mean really, what's not to like? They're simply amazing and they tell Buffett's story in plain English - I know I learned stuff that I never knew. They also give the impression that this is HIS SHIP and he's the one running the show.
All of this is pure marketing genius in my opinion. Jimmy is a good businessman on a number of fronts. He's got some smart people working for him and he's well-advised. He's playing this one for all it's worth.
Having said all that, I do think the songwriting credits should have been included with the CD. As well thought-out as this project is, I suspect that was part of the plan. I do have confidence that the writers will get every cent of the royalties they deserve.

The first rule in any business is to know your customers. The consumers they are targeting have internet access. To me, that's the bottom line in all of this.Jahfin wrote:It is nice that he provided all the info at Margaritaville.com to help compliment the album but the downside is, not everyone has the internet.
