I certainly would have liked more Pans on this album but it seems like every album lately have had a different sound on it.

Thank you for pointing this out, prrthd1987.

I have a suggestion for our dearly departed friend, the beaten horse. Let's agree with our friend Big Red Parrothead...it's a Jimmy Buffett album. Then let's hold a memorial service for the beaten horse, a la Barometer Soup.

LAST NIGHT I SAID GOOD-BYE TO A DEAR OLD FRIEND OF MINE
JUST A THROWBACK SHELL BEACH PARTY, NOTHING REALLY ASININE
RUM AND COOKED ANIMALS AND ***** BY THE TON
THAT PARTY LASTED WAY TOO LONG AND I HAD TOO MUCH FUN

Good idea, yes? I'll bring the rum...oh yeah, and a copy of LTC to listen to at the wake.

Yeah, Tikibar, the DISH network channel 945. They seem to play a lot more Jimmy than the Sirius 'vacation' channel 6097. And yeah, that IS a great avatar....where do you get ones like that?

diamonddan wrote:A lot of music that was considered rock or pop years ago would probably be considered country today, because it would be hard to label them anything else.

The Eagles, James Taylor, even Crosby Stills and Nash probably wouldn't get air time anywhere but country stations. Even the Southern Rock bands could be added to the list.
Don Henley (the "Sting" of Texas) takes credit for this, I blame him for it. Except I find the majority of today's country to be the equivalent of "hair metal" in the 80s, all style and no substance.

Then It's Country People !!!

Most of those things go for pretty much any type of music, not just country. I also don't get the "slide guitar" thing. What makes it so uniquely country? Usually when I think of slide guitar, the blues is the first thing to come to mind. Are you sure you don't mean "pedal steel guitar" (which actuallly has it's origins in gospel, not country)? Hell, even the banjo doesn't even originate from country or bluegrass music (it came from the islands and has it's roots in calypso music). I agree with those that say it sounds the most like a Jimmy Buffett album. No, I'm never going to mistake any of the songs on it for something that was on A1A but it has the same mixture of styles I've always associated with "Jimmy Buffett music". I certainly heard no surprises there.

He made a country record, which is fine, but I wish that he limited the guests and focused on writing the good country songs that he can write and if doing covers focus on doing them well instead trying to milk out 5 o' clock.
you said it!!! More than half country, I skip over lots of these tunes and not his best if you ask me. I know you didnt but the thread was here, sorry

Yes, I am. I never learned that myself until I took a trip to Costa Rica a few years back and heard a local group that referred to themselves as the "Rice and Beans Band". The group consisted of a banjo player, a harmonica player, a singer (who also clapped his hands to the music) and some women that happened to be around that joined in singing. When I got back to the States I was looking online for music that was indigenous to the area and came across this calypso compilation CD along with links to the origin of the banjo.
