Back TO The Island

I may be stretching a little bit here. At the end of the song when Jimmy says "...Always thinking of you baby...what about me..." I can't help but think this is a wink and a nod to Toby Keith and his song "I Wanna Talk About Me". Toby recorded his "Shock 'N Ya'll" CD at Shrimpboat (although "Talk About Me" was on an earlier one) and I'm thinking this was Jimmy's way of saying thanks. Did anyone else catch this???

I doubt it....Leon Russell wrote the song years ago.

Hey Alaara. I understand that Leon Russell wrote the song. I'm talking about at the very end when Jimmy is talk/ singing during the fade out.

My boss (a Buffett phan and general music buff) just mentioned that it sounded just like a song by Captain and Tenielle.

I heard that at the end. Hadn't thought about Talk about ME, but you are prolly right. I love the way Jimmy personalizes the music at the show and on the cds.

When I heard it, I hoped he wasn't talking about the people on BN!

I don't know about the Toby Keith reference but this is one of those instances when I wish he would keep the talk/singing to himself. I love the song other than that part.

If you want to hear a better version of the song Back to the Islands
than Jimmy's or Leon R.'s, give a listen to Michael McCloud. Michael
doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. Catch him almost everyday
at the Schooner Wharf in Key West.
On the same subject of better versions of Jimmy's songs on his new CD,
how about Boats to Build,.....ever heard the original by Jerry Jeff Walker . It puts JB's version to shame.
Sorry guys, but that is the way I feel.

Jerry Jeff's version is not the original but it's original in a sense that he changed it up a bit from Guy Clark's original version.
The first version I heard was Jerry Jeff's and I love the way he does it even though all three versions are good.

The original is by Guy Clark (co-written by Verlon Thompson), not Jerry Jeff Walker. I like Jerry Jeff's version just fine but nothing tops Guy's original version to my ears.
