OK, I am trying to plan my Fenway trip to Boston. Need some help with details, like where to stay that is moderately priced. Also would like ideas as what else to do while I am there. Will be there 6 days minus one or two for Jimmy!

Thanks!
Lynn

Stay at the Hyatt in Cambridge, anywhere you stay will be expensive. The Hyatt is across the river from Fenway and is about a 5 minute drive without traffic, there is always traffic when there is an event at Fenway. I went in to Fenway yesterday morning around 10:30 AM there was no game going on, I parked right on Yawkee Way in and out in 15 minutes. Hotel has great views of the city. The Royal Sonesta is another close to Fenway.

I wouldn't call the royal Sonesta "close" to Fenway but it's the hotel I'd go with. It too is across the river in Cambridge but it's closer to the "T" than the hilton and it is right on the Charles River promenade. (I THINK the Hilton you have to cross the parkway to get to the promenade)

There are plenty of hotels closer to fenway, but you'll be paying through the nose for them.

If you are really concerned with cost, you'll need to leave Boston proper and stay out on the Rt. 128 belt. There are plenty of hotel's out there but you loose the convenience of hopping on public transportation.
Indecision may or may not be my problem....

If you're a baseball fan and they are playing I recommend going to a Sox game... Also, take a duck tour... I heard they're great and show you a lot of Boston..

There's a World Science Fiction Convention on in Boston the weekend before Jimmy. Noreascon Four will be the 62nd World Science Fiction Convention and it is from Sept 2 to 6.
That's what I would do if I had the time and the fun tickets!

Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have another question - Should I rent a car? I am staying about 2 mi from Fenway - the place has a shuttle to many of the local attractions (including Fenway). I am thinking that as long as I can get "downtown" I can get to transportation/tours/etc. Ideas?

Boston is a VERY difficult city to drive in.
All the streets are paved former cow paths that are not laid out in any sort of understandable grid. Many one ways. Drivers are maniacs. Parking is virtually non-existent, and often requires driving around for long periods waiting for a space to open up. Why ruin a good buzz?? The subway ("T") will get you just about anyplace, including Kenmore station right near Fenway.

Uhhh, if your not from Boston don't drive in Boston!! I don't mean that a bad way just Boston is a nightmare to get around... Nothing but one way roads and the roads are very narrow... I'm from this area and I very rarely drive in the city... I highly recommend using public transporation such as the T or a cab... Usually I take the T in and then walk to where ever I need to be... I would highly recommend not driving in Boston... Hope this helps!

OK, thanks, I won't rent a car - that just saved me a couple hundred $. Appreciate all the suggestions. Feel free to let me know if you think of anything else.

When my wife and I went to Boston for the Buffett show a couple years back, we stayed in a B&B, which was nice, and cheaper than some of the hotels. We parked the car, did our sightseeing via public transportation. Worked out OK.

There atre plenty of fun things to do in Boston. Depoends what kind of stuff your into. If your into history the city is a goldmine. I would definately suggest spending some time in fanuel hall. Sox games are always fun, but good seats can be pricey, and you are going to see fenway for buffett anyway. The north end is great, stop at cantina italiana for the best italian meal, and Cafe Paradisio or the modern bakery for desert. (Mikes Pastry is a tourist trap, Id avoid it) Everywhere you can get to via public transportation. Cabs are not cheap, so avoid them.

stay in the copley sq area , there are a few resonably priced hotels there . go to dicks last resort to eat/drink.take the green line to goverment center. you got fanniel hall , the sea aquarium the north end ( italian area) and may bars and resturants in the area.then back on the greenline to i think northeastern and its a short walk from there. where ever you end up enjoy.
