Road tests on a hockey rink...oooook.....I didn't get into an accident, but I saw lots of cars with RI plates that were...you learn real fast to follow the plows and NOT use the brakesrednekkPH wrote:Do it in a hockey rink, I really don't care. Eat seafood? Use bait? Thank a commercial fisherman.

We saw a lot of those on the news in Atlanta this past winter. It was almost all people from the midwest and up north who were used to driving on SNOW. Note to anyone thinking about driving in poor weather in the South; we do not have snow on the roads. We have black ice and no road salt. There's a reason everything shuts down. Just sit at home for a few more hours. It all melts by noon.rednekkPH wrote:As long as no one is injured, there are very few things as gratifying as seeing a brand new $40,000 4wd SUV that slides in the snow and lands in a ditchPHBeerman wrote: What do you mean 4 wheel drive does not help you stop?

But then they add an r to words like "idear."longlinergirl wrote:I think that if you are a Florida native you should be considered a Southerner, I mean seriously how much more south can you get???..If you grew up like I did in Fla, you really are a redneck anyway
.Oh and by the way....Yankees (New England ones anyway) don't prounce their r's either....lobstah for instance.
And I left Florida and moved further north to get back to the South. The further south you are in Florida the closer you get to Newark.

I had to laugh this past March. A friend and I were on a long weekend motorcycle trip. We were in Southern VA on Monday morning when a "flurry" blew through. They were sending the kids home early from school because of the weather and resulting road conditions...and we were out passing the school busses on our bikes.land_shark3 wrote:There's a reason everything shuts down. Yes, I was one of the unlucky ones who grew up in a city school. The county schools always got out because they covered such a large area. The roads we saw were fine, but there are some counties larger than RI.rednekkPH wrote:I had to laugh this past March. A friend and I were on a long weekend motorcycle trip. Re: Guidelines for the South
1) We don't care how you did it up north. I-95 goes both ways...land_shark3 wrote:After visiting various other threads discussing what is and what ain't the South, I've decided to start make a list of rules for what is Southern.
2) We knock on the door, even if the door is to someone's office and even if it's open, especially if the occupant doesn't know we're there.
3) Honey, sweetheart, dear are all terms of endearment. If you don't like it, I-95 goes both ways...
4) Just because we talk slowly, doesn't mean our brains work slowly. Just try and pull the wool over the eyes of many a Southron farmer.
5) Greens are meant to be cooked to death. If you want your greens crunchy, I-95 goes both ways...
6) If you move here and stay, you'll be a Damnyankee your entire life, even to your best Southron friends. It's not that we dislike you. It's just that you're a Damnyankee. The leopard can't change its spots.
7) Scrapple is nasty, but Cracklin' Cornbread with Brains and Eggs is tasty.
Now where is that tongue-in-cheek smiley when you need it most...

Being a proud Yankee it seems that whenever I have visted the south (Tennessee, Florida, New Orleans) it seems that people dont appreciate my prescence, the whole "The South will Rise Again" attitude seems prominent. Are you all (ya'll) still bitter about losing the Civil War because it almost seems like that to me. And what state still has the confederate flag on its state flag? Whats up with that?

Black ice is on the roads all winter here. No salt used.land_shark3 wrote:We saw a lot of those on the news in Atlanta this past winter. To answer the question, yes I'm from the South. I've lived in SC, NC, GA, FL, and AL.
To me, the availability of grits and sweet tea are the thermometer of southern-ness. The further into south you go, the easier it is to find both. Here in Dallas, you have to know where to go to get either one.
I can't remember who sings this song, but thanks for reminding me of the chorus...
"And on the 8th day, God made Sweet Tea..."

It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend
