Burnt out yet?

Post by nycparrothead »

I've played LTC a minimum of 2 times every day since 3 days before the official release. Although I really want to play it now as I'm cleaning the apartment, I'm afraid of getting burnt out on it so I'm gonna throw it in the changer with 25 other JB cd's. Anyone else afraid of getting LTC burn out, or have it already, from playing it so much?

I played it once so far. Right now going through Mark Mulligan CD's to see if any song is worth putting in my mixes.

I have only listened to it about three times through since I bought it over a week ago at 7:00 AM. Once I heard "Window on the World," I found myself going back and listening to my John Hiatt Anthology album. Since then I have purchased three other Hiatt albums: "Beneath this Gruff Exterior," "Crossing Muddy Waters," and "Hiatt Comes Alive at Budokan?" I think John Hiatt is becoming one of my top five favorite singer/songwriters.

After a new album comes out by anybody I like I usually find myself going back through their old albums to help put the new one in context. I don't know about everybody else, but the first one I felt compelled to listen to after my first time through License To Chill was Fruitcakes.

Approaching burnout, but not quite there yet. I haven't been able to listen to anything today, and I'll probably start to "wean" myself off it tomorrow. But I still can't hear "Back to the Island" often enough!

I think I'm beginning to get there... I've listened to it every day at work since the day it was released.. It plays all day on repeat... granted I never hear the whole thing straight through at one sitting... Oh-well I'll just start listening to some older stuff...

Been listening to LTC since its release. All in all, I've probably listened to it 20 times, straight through. All I can say is I'm not burned out and I don't think I will be anytime soon -- because everytime I listen to it, I get something new out of it, some little nuance.

I know some people don't like the duets (on principle or otherwise) and others don't like the country twang, but LTC is nothing short of a masterpiece. It's not going to be huge -- it IS huge. And nobody deserves it more than Jimmy.

Um no...

I just got it today and it's going to take me a long time to warm up to this one if ever. I like Coast of Carolina. Heard one or two others I might like after hearing them a bit (Boats to Build), but mostly it was EEEWWW wish I had a remote to hit. And when my hubby came home, the song with nanci somebody was on and he looked at me and said "what in God's name is THAT???" :o I pretty much agreed. I guess I never heard her sing before, but her voice is really grating to someone who doesn't generally appreciate country music... (He never complained during our 6 hour trip back from Ohio with Jimmy CD's all the way, but luckily this one hadn't arrived from Amazon yet :-? )

I hate to sound like the old COBO people who didn' tlike it when Jimmy took a different direction, but I hope this turn is short lived. But obviously a lot of people like it since it debuted at #1...Must be a me thing.... :-?

I instantly liked most of Far Side of the World, so maybe I'll just skip back a CD :P

Hasn't left the CD player in my truck since the day it came out but I think this weekend it probably will. Hour-and-a-half a day since last Tuesday seems to have been about right to figure out what I think of it.

It definitely had to grow on me. Started out skipping between Coast of Carolina, Boats to Build and Coastal Confessions, then added Back to the Island, Anything..., and LTC into the rotation, now only skip hey Good Lookin', Piece of Work and Simply Complicated.

It will probably assume its place alongside Barometer Soup as the only post-mid-80s Buffett in my standard Buffett rotation.

I listen once a day, typically during lunch break. After work I switch to The Whaleshark.

Nope, not yet. I went into my 'skip' phase a couple days ago (I play almost all albums on shuffle, and when the songs I like least come on, I skip--in LTC's case, four songs), but then I spent some time on Vacation (Sirius 97), and now I'm back to the album complete.

I copied it to my computer and my son's computer and the original is in the truck. Now, I've heard it a lot. burn out...naw. But, this morning my keet (the 5 y/o) asked if she could PLEEEEASE hear "Stars on the Waw-der!" Maybe she's tired of it. :o
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)

I loaded the CD onto my computer at work, made a copy for my truck and put the original away. Listening to LTC a couple times a day since it came out I have grown to like it more and more. I don't think I'm getting burned out on it but I am starting to add some other music back into the mix .... though I haven't removed it from the truck player yet. :D :D
