I usually by my tequila across the border. I prefer Corralejo or Cazadores. Cuervo actually does make a good tequila, their Cuervo Reserva de la Familia is one of my favorites but rather pricey.

Since we're talking tequila, does anyone have any opinions on El Jimador Reposado Gold?

There is no comparison between the three listed. Cabo Wabo is far better than Marg. or Cuervo.

Does anyone know who makes Margaritaville tequila for Buffett?

Cabo Wabo is easily the best of the three...unbelievably smooth! (and I'm not even that big of a tequila fan).

I had the good fortune to be parked next to a guy who was doing a Cabo Wabo parking lot promotion at the David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar concert a couple years ago. He had a cooler full of all the flavors, and he was giving everyone free shots. Great stuff. Unfortunately, you gotta pay for the good stuff...around here, the Reposado goes for 55 bucks a bottle!!

Milagro Anejo.. had this at the Cactus Club before heading up to Alpine. Gooooood stuff.

Sauza Commemorativo Anejo.. mmmm Oily, peppery goodness

Patron Anejo... not nearly as good the first two, and a lot more expensive

Tres Generaciones... mmmmmm :D

Jimador isn't bad if you're on a budget.....
why would you do shots of sipping-grade tequila?

Unfortunately never had Cabo, but judging by the prices it probably is better than the others listed in this post. For the most part, you do get what you pay for in tequilas, similar to vodkas, or whiskeys.

I place Cuervo and Margaritaville in the same category as Sauza. . .good for frozen maggies. However, in double blind taste-testing (glad we didn't go double blind) before a Buffett show the year Margaritaville came out, the overwhelming majority of our group of six like Margaritaville better than Cuervo

When drinking maggies on the rocks my personal list in order of preference is:
1) Sauza Tres Generaciones Anejo
2) Herradura Anejo
3) Herradura Reposado
4) Milagro Anejo
5) Don Eduardo Anejo
6) El Tesoro Anejo
7) Cuervo 1800
8) El Jimador Reposado
9) Sauza Commemorativo Anejo
10) El Jimador Blanco

I seem to remember having Patron somewhere before, but can't say how it rates with the above.

Ones that I would still like to try include: Corazon and Don Julio (who am I kidding, any other one that I haven't tried yet).

All this talk has made me thirsty. . .

I believe it's 5 o'clock. . .somewhere

i believe seagrams makes margaritaville, but i could be wrong. cabo is hands down the best of the three, but petron silver is my drink of choice 8)

As fas as I know, Seagrams is still bottling Margaritaville Tequila. A couple years ago, Buffett was at the Glen Burnie plant here in Maryland to check out the operation... Of course I didn't find out until AFTER he had left...

I've learned several things about tequila over the years.

NEVER use good tequila to make a Margarita - the unaged silver/white tequilas hold up to the orange liqueur and lime juice much better and cost much less...

One should NEVER "shoot" GOOD tequila. Tequila is a type of brandy, and the better tequilas should be treated like the better brandies and enjoyed!

A tequila classified as a "reposado" probably makes the best "shooting" tequila (if you have to shoot tequila at all!)

Right now I've got a bottle of Chinaco Añejo, Patron Añejo and Cuervo Reserva de la Familia at home. I like the Chinaco for its peppery finish, the Patron is probably my favorite overall tequila (or perhaps the Herradura Añejo) and I'm still waiting for the right occassion to crack the Cuervo...

If I accompany my tequila with ANYTHING, it's a caballito of sangrita... My OWN recipe, of course...!

I think I'll be "wastin' away again with Margarita Will" tonight...

Corazon is another good option, nice, smooth, and mmmmmm... the last time I was in a bar that had a bottle of it, the 'tender asked if I wanted salt and a lime with it, and by the look on my face, he chuckled and said, "I had to ask. You would not believe the requests I get. I'll get you a snifter glass for that."

There is a mexican restaurant in downtown Baltimore called Blue Agave. It is not a mexcian restaurant like Chi-Chi's it is real mexican food and they also have a tequila bar. When you sit at the bar or at one of the tables at the bar you get a menu with all the tequila's and I would say it is probably about 100 or so. They have all kinds of drinks with tequila in it. I asked the bartender who is also the owner if he had Margaritaville and he said that it is not real tequila. Meaning it was not of good quality. The place is very nice but expensive. It cost about $100 for 2 for apps, dinner and drinks.

Doesn't Seagrams also make Sauza?

Why not? They taste better, and I can afford it. I'm not gonna ruin them with salt and lime of course, but I'd rather sip on some good irish whiskey or bourbon. For the most part I drink tequila to get drunk, not a huge phan

Cuervo doesn't make 1800 anymore.
I hadn't heard that......I still see it on the shelves all over the place
Oh, it's still out there. It's just not made by Cuervo. Look at a bottle, it doesn't have the Cuervo name or logo on it anymore. Not for about 2 years.

k. I have lost what little ability I ever had to do shots of anything, so I just stick with the sipping style. And the better-quality stuff lends it to that style.

On the other hand, I am probably going to have to find a bottle of Middleton's and put it in a safety deposit box against the day after I cash in. A good blend for what I would like to be the only good party I have absolutely no way to attend except in spirit.

I've never tried Cabo Wabo, but everybody I know who has, says it's pretty darn good.
I've tried both Margaritaville and Jose Cuervo, and honestly can't tell the difference-not that I'm a connisuer of tequila-but they both taste good, either in a margarita or tequila sunrise.
