URGENT: MUST READ FOR PARENTS

Currently Kellogs is running a promotion giving away a free "Spidey Signal" toy in it's boxes of cerial. These toys are to be worn on the child's arm, however it contains a mercury battery. As many are aware mercury exposure can cause several medical problems for our children, including brain damage. Already the state of Conneticut has forced Kellogs to take these boxes off shelves.

I heard about this on the news this morning and felt the need to pass it along to all parents of small children. Unfortunately the website for the NBC station I was watching only had the following link on it.

I understand your concern but it seems a little alarmist to me. I am sure the news made it sound very grave.

The battery is the same already used in watches and other toys. I don't see the harm as long as the kid doesn't bite the battery and swallow it. I would think you would get a higher chance of mercury exposure from an oral thermometer :(

I am not mocking the concern that prompted the message here, I find it admirable. What I think needs to be rethought is the sensationalizing of news stories.

The states banned them because of the batteries possiblly being disposed of in thier landfills not because of any health concerns for the kids.
