LTC Slips to #2

Post by Goodman »

Billboard indicates sales dropped nearly 46%. My take is that all of us Parrotheads and a few country & western folks got in very early (pre-orders). Now that the first wave is over it will be interesting to see if Jimmy has "legs". It shows how transient success in the music bis is and why the pursuit of a 'hit' album is bogus. Don't Make Money for Music- Make Music for we.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

The music 'bidness' is a fickle business. One week (like Buffett) they are on top, and then the next week a quality performer (like Buffett) gets surpassed by a 'ride the coat tails of my sister, can't write her own music, and can't sing' talent like Ashlee Simpson. Its frustrating to see Buffett slip, but honestly, this has been his ownly time in the spotlight in a while. I'm sure he enjoys everything he gets, and isn't too wrapped up in the Billboard charts anyways. Still the best performer I have ever seen!!

I wonder if there is a shortage? A friend of mine went to 4 different stores in the Seattle area and came up empty.
:wench: That would drive sales down a bit.

Price makes a difference as well....I know several stores had this for $9.99 or less during the first week.....now its about $15 in most stores....a 50% increase in price is definitely going to impact sales.

Do you honestly believe that Ashlee Simpson and Jimmy Buffett have the same target audience? Bubba would've dropped REGARDLESS of which album came out this week...his position may have stayed at #1 (if nothing new debuted), but his sales didn't drop just because Simpson released a CD. I don't understand people some time...

It doesn't matter. AS will not sell the concert tickets that Bubba sells and she won't be in the business when she is in her 50's like Bubba is. Catch her while you can!

I agree, name one concert promoter that would take her over Jimmy at any venue, at any time?

Yes. Hard core fans buy things opening week. After that you see more honest numbers.

Meisinger may tell me I'm wrong but...

I'm pretty sure that all of the Amazon pre-sales get counted in the first week's sales. As such, the huge number of pre-sales on this record would skew the first week's record sales in Jimmy's favor. I'd say the fact that he held at number 2 is actually pretty strong...
