Why are people idiots?

Seriously now. The poll numbers for John Kerry are expected to jump 8-10% following the Democratic National Convention! Why? Are 8-10% of the people actually stupid enough to change their vote just because they watched a pep rally with balloons and confetti?
Now don't take this wrong. I'm not saying that people should or shouldn't vote for John Kerry, this isn't an anti-Kerry post, just an anti-idiot post! It boggles my mind how simple-minded voters are and how they will change their vote just because of a bunch of fanfare!
I'm all for the right to vote, but jeez, sometime I really wonder...

The conventions happen every 4 years. I didn't see much different with this one as opposed to others. They are all big pep rallys on both sides of the floor.

It's not people changing their votes. Nowadays conventions are all about convincing UNDECIDED voters via TV. A certain % will make a choice (not neccessarily permanent) after. It's what they call "The Bounce".

So then, if the Republican Convention had taken place first, Bush's numbers would rise 8-10%? I still say people are idiots.

What "they" should REALLY do is to have each of the candidate host Saturday Night Live. That way we, the TV viewing audience, can make a truly informed decision.

I have to disagree with you LaTda on your Bush lost the respect. I have to agree with PHBeerman on both things, one it was lost before then and Beerman is probably as good and qualified as either of them, unfortunately if you are not super rich you will never be president in this country again. Now tell me how many super rich people actually know your day to day struggle ?

it's ok Rick (and Troy) this is America, you are allowed to be wrong
The loss of respect by the world (for republicans) started when they went after President Clinton over Lewinsky. I mean, they didn't care about that. Mitteran's wife stood with his mistress at his funeral.
Then there's the WMD / UN / Iraq war where most of the respect was lost by people around the world.
