I was doing some searching tonight for Elton John album art, trying to see the stuff they left out of the Capt. Fantastic CD Issue (the LP came with two booklets full of pics that the CD issue ignored) and stumbled upon something really neat.
In 2001, Elton's label released all his classic albums from the 70s on CD in cardboard packaging, prefectly replicating the original album jackets. This isn't really that big of a deal besides the Capt. Fantastic album, as the US and UK CDs do included all of the stuff in the CD inserts, but man is it a really neat concept. To bad they were only released in Japan and now are out of print. Maybe I take album art to seriously, but nonetheless this is a great nestalgic idea.
This is really the holy grail of CD issues, but I don't know if it would work for all of Jimmy's or many others albums. I don't believe any of Elton's classic albums had any small print on the sleeves, so this worked out without any tweaks having to be made to the packages. Notice they all still say "side 1" and "side 2". They are prefect small replicas down to the wire.
So we know Japan gets anime, which gets murdered by dubbing studios before it reachs out televison sets, now they get better CD issues? What gives?

The tradeoff is living in a country in dire need of paint, stacked upon each other like rabbits living in multilevel hutches. Maybe they get the cool toys so they don't ask questions like, "what the heck is going on here?"
This is about album art. and PM, let me just say that I totally admire the information you provide-I knew there was usually some difference in British and American releases, but I didn't know that about Japanese ones. Cool!
My love is staying an anchor tied to you with that silver chain.

Ain't it? I wish I could find better pics, as they claim to even have the gatefolds, inner sleeves and all that jazz the vinyls did. You can get many of them (new and unopened) off of Tower Records, but due to the fact that they are imports and are out of print, they will end up costing you at least $25 bucks a piece. However, this version of the Capt. Fantastic album (pictured above) is not avalible on there. Too bad, cause that's the one that dosen't even have all the stuff in the jewel case insert. Guess there is a reason why it was popular and sold out.
Elton's classic albums (1969-1976) are the only ones I believe got this treatment, but I will keep looking.
