Warped Tour
For the second year in a row, I'm taking my son and his buds to see the warped tour. 70 bands, 8 stages. Hopefully, I'll get nominated for father of the year. Actually, some of the new music I like - reminds me of the Clash or Knack from my colleg days. But, looking at this years list, about the only band I will make sure I see is Flogging Molly - they do Rock versions of Irish Folk Songs.
Other than that, I'm finding a shade tree and bringing my license to chill!

I nominate you, diamonddan, as father of the year, because you did the warped tour last year and are willing to go again! I took my daughters last Wednesday and regret to say that I could only last for five hours of it (I was ready to leave after five minutes). We were looking forward to the bands that were going to play later in the evening but just couldn't hang in there. If only I had brought a book to read or brought some JB to listen to I might have been able to stay. You rock!

I hope they have better movies in the Parents tent. I've also heard there is a tent this year with computers w/ internet access. Maybe I'll do a "Live" report tomorrow.firstmate wrote:I nominate you, diamonddan, as father of the year, because you did the warped tour last year and are willing to go again! Awww....this brings back memories! I used to be the "concert mom" and I've been to the Warped Tour in years past...I agree...they've had some good bands! My son is pretty much all grown up now, so those days are long gone, but I certainly enjoyed them while they lasted. It's nice to be able to connect with your kids over something like that.

Ya i went back in 97 when Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pennywise, Blink 182, Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake were there. was a great concert. Not the usual "father" environment, but your son will love you for it!Lastplaneout wrote:I used to go to the Warped Tour. The bands mostly s uck now. I'll save my cash and head to OzzFest. Too many little kids runnin' around anyway
If they still do it, they have really cool half pipe demos too

All of the bands out now are just copycats an or sellouts. Back in the late 90's/2000 when I used to skateboard....a lot. Bands like Less Than Jake, Pennywise, Blink 182 were all true to their original sound. Now they are all MTV stars and in Teenie mags, and changed their sound. Now when it come to OzzFest, the band list is incredible and not MTV'd.
Hatebreed
Throwdown
Lamb of God
SLAYER!
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Dimmu Borgir
All of these bands I am a huge fan of. All have stayed true to their roots, whether it be SoCal Hardcore or Death Metal. No money hungry MTV boy toys here....too bad I have prior obligations and will miss the show in my area.
But as for the sports.... incredible.

Hmmm...well, we're in Jersey, so my son and his friends always caught the Warped Tour at Asbury Park. There was no beer at Convention Hall or on the boardwalk, but there was beer served (obviously) in the Stone Pony - they probably used one of those bracelet systems to confirm legal drinking age. I never went into one of those parent holding pens (just dropped 'em off, drove down to a nicer beach and relaxed there - we stayed in touch w/cell phones), so I don't know if they serve beer in those. It might just depend on the venue. The year the Warped Tour was on Randall's Island in NYC, I doubt there was beer available anywhere.

Beer yes.
But, free water in the parent's tent, while it lasts
Warped tour is about a nine hour day. Starts around noon, and goes 8:30 - 9.
Bands and stages everywhere. But, at the main stages, there should be a large schedule, and they provide paper and pencils to write down when/where your favorite bands are.
