The Packers used to be pretty good but they choked last year in the playoffs and are on the downslide. They probably won't be above 500 this year. They still have a good offense but once Favre goes down in the 3rd game (It's gotta be the year) their toast.

As everyone knows, D wins championships and the Vikings are finally going to have a good D. Not great but good. With the great O they have, they just might have a chance to choke in the Championship game again.
OK, I really need to debate you on this....

True, the Vikings D is improved. Fact is, they could improve and still be no better than 20th in the NFL!!!! Better does not mean great.... The offense is very, very good, I'll give you that, although RB by committee is not a great idea, and you still need a 2nd WR! The line is great, the QB is excellent, Moss is Moss.

As for the Packers "Downslide"....where do I begin? At the end of last season, they were the best team in the NFC from mid-November on. That group that went 5-0 down the stretch, won a playoff game, and should have beaten Philly is back, nearly intact! EVERY starter is back, except for holdout Mike McKenzie, who will be back when he realizes he'll have to hold out for 3 YEARS (which is left on his contract) to get what he wants. So while other teams are getting used to playing with each other (in the case of the ViQueens, literally), the Packers are already in synch. They upgraded their biggest weakness, punter, which will help greatly with field position. You are predicting Favre to get hurt....well, people have been predicting that for 12 years. Never happens. Even if it does, they now have a capable backup, and possibly the deepest core of running backs in the NFL! (Green had one of the best seasons in NFL history last year, and Davenport and Fisher also both averaged over 5 yards per carry!) The offensive line is amongst the best in the NFL, and the defense is good enough to get by with.

Injuries and other things can happen, but if all things were equal, I'd put my money on GB over Minnesota any day.

You're funny! Do you really think last year was anything more than the easiest NFL schedule in the last decade, combined with an automatic improvement having Parcells there? Parcells himself isn't enough. You need a QB, RB, WR's (Glenn and Keyshon...old and overrated), line, etc...
I DOUBT IT

I was wondering how long it would take for a Packer fan to take the bait. But I must correct you, I never said the Vikings D would be great, just good. I still say the Vikings do better than the Packers but it will be close. Hopefully it comes right down to the last few weeks of the season. That Christmas Eve game could be the decider. Favre will get hurt this year but that pain in our side will fight thru it and still win games. I hate that guy.

Yeah, I'm a Packers fan, but I'm also a realist. This year, I honestly believe that they can do it. Last time I had this feeling about the team, they won the Super Bowl.

And as for Favre...you hate him, but believe me, if he was on your team, you'd love him!!!!!

To the Bengal fan: I last heard Ickey was selling used cars somewhere. A noble profession nonetheless. Being from southern Indiana I loved growing up with Sam Wyche and the Bengals. They had some damn good teams. I'm glad they've made a committment to winning again. As for the Phins, they've moved forward with their committment to being mediocre. Very nice.

Pencil, it's also good to see you prowling the boards. October brings first official practice. We lost Emmett but are bringing a kid named Zeno in that is going to be freshman of the year. Can't wait. Guns up.

Yeah I know. That guy plays with the most motivation and heart I can ever remember seeing in Football. He's also got a lot of luck on his side. He's got great skills but sometimes he just launches the ball hoping one of his guys will get it. A lot of the time they do. He's definnetaly one of the best to ever play that position. But I'd still like to see Hovan drill him into the ground during a game.

The Bengals fan would be me. I think Lewis is the answer. He sure turned the team around last year.

I think you are correct with Ickey. I have heard the same about his selling car also. He is still a Bengals fan though. Still goes to the games.

My favorite memory of Sam Wyche was in a winter game with .... I forget the other team... but it might have even been in the playoffs. People were throwing snowballs on the field. He went running over to the PA microphone and grabbed it and said "If anyone see anybody throwing snowballs point them out. You don't live in Cleveland you like in Cincinnati!!!" I still remember where I was when he made those comments. I was at a fairly large Bengals party at a friends house. The whole place went nuts. With the exception of Stanford Jennings KO return for a TD in the Super Bowl that might have been the loudest I have ever yelled during a game. And let me tell you I have yelled quite a bit. The whole stadium went ballistic when Sam said that. Probably because it is so true.

I was always a Sam fan also. I saw him at a HS game when his son was a starting LB for Cincinnati Wyoming. Pretty good LB for a HS kid. The coaches sure have went downhill since Sam. Marvin is turning things around. This year will tell much. If you still see Carson starting in week 16 and Kitna still on the bench you can bet all Bengals fans will have big smiles on their faces.

Hovan is such a faker. He does all the Warren Sapp-type trash talking with Favre, but doesn't have half of Sapp's talent. He just wants to be known as one of Favre's enemies. Can't stand that guy.

Im just hoping the Broncos have a good season.

The defense will be strong. Just hope the offense without Sharpe can be productive. And I dont think loosing Portis will hurt all that much. Shanahan is a master at finding productive running backs.

Should be an interesting first gam of the year against KC!!!

The Broncos will be strong, but it'll be a struggle. Losing Portis hurts, but like you said, someone will step up. That's Shanny's gift. Losing Sharpe will hurt more. Rod Smith is getting too old to be the only receiver on a team. Unless Lelie steps up, there will be trouble. And I still think Plummer is overrated.

In the aftermath of the first pre-season games:

GB better hope Favre stays healthy.

The Cowboys will be picking up discarded QBs like cards in a game of gin.

Rohan Davey no threat to Tom Brady yet.

How did your team do?

Buffett4ever, I'm right with you. That Super Bowl killed me. I'll never forget Montana right before throwing the game winner, dropped one right in David Fulcher's hands and he dropped it. I don't know how cuz it him in right in the numbers but he dropped it. Would have sealed the victory and kept us Bengal fans from seeing that freaking Montana to Taylor reply every stinking year. I'm back in Indiana now and looking forward to following the Bengals progress more closely. Now if we could just do something about the Reds.

That wasn't Fulcher who dropped the ball. I forget who it was but it wasn't Fulcher. He is my favorite Bengal of all time. Still have his jersey. It was a DB I believe. I'll find out who it was and PM you. I am 98% certain it was not Fulcher though.

It was Lewis Billups. #22. Fulcher was #33. Billups I can see doing it. Fulcher? NO WAY!
