Simply Complicated

Post by phenwayparrothead »

I havent been on the board in a little while, so I don't know if its been discussed, but during the song simply complicated just as Jimmy is sining "my daughter wants to go on dates, I think I'll let her go" does it sound like hes about to burst out laughing or is it just me. Anyway I think its a pretty good song and seemed like Jimmy had a blast with it

This is one song on the album at first I didn't really like, but the more I have listened to it the more I like it. I agree I really think it sounds like he enjoyed making this song. :D
And all across the harbour
Night lights shinin' in
It looks just like stars on the water

I liked this sing the first time I heard it. I always thought that the lyrics were clever.

I feel that this song was just another one of Jimmy's "joke" songs, and that he loves doing those. Obviously he has been doing them for a while. "Math Sucks", "Hokey Pokey Song from FSOTW", and now "Simply Complicated" to just name a few. I think it adds character to his cds. I like the song.

Out of all the "joke" songs this one is definitely the best!

It reminds me of Hee Haw, its simply awful, worse song on the album.

I would have to be there with you when you say it is the worst song on the cd, but the only reason I agree on the extent, is because I feel the rest of the cd is unbelievable. I would rank "simply complicated" as the best "joke" songs he has done yet. SO I guess I agree with both of you! :)

For me it is in a tie with about three other for dead last, but it is better than Hokey, but Math is better.

I love the song!! Anytime people give me confused looks over the things I do or say; my response to them now is "Its simply complicated".

(Doesn't it always sound like Jimmy is about to crack up while he is singing? I think that's one of the reasons we love him so much ~)

I love how he laughs when he sings that line. Makes me want to chuckle. I also like the abrupt ending of the song with.. "Oh... $h*t! " :o

Does anyone else think Mac wrote that song? I'm pretty sure he has a daughter that's just old enough to start dating.

I remember the first time I heard Math Sucks- I was just loving the pan on the intro, and then the lyrics started and it almost made me cry they were so bad. :) But it was playing on the way to dinner with Matt (my boyfriend) and his best friend right before they went overseas- and the best friend starts singing it Matt sucks.... so now I have to smile every time I hear it.

This is my 4 year old's favorite song and I get a kick out of watching him sing it, so I listen to it more than I might otherwise. I also put it at the top of the joke category, but it's not in my list of favorites. I also love the way you can hear the smile in Jimmy's voice sometimes.

Nope... Jimmy and Bill Withers co-wrote it

I'm pretty sure Jimmy said he had finished the song himself. Bill Withers sent him the first half and he wrote the second half. I think this was from the radio release show. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I just want to know where the hell you've been hiding? I haven't seen you on the board in ages. Good trip to SC? I think about you every time I pass the "Fair Play" exit. Its a shame they spelled it incorrectly.

Work is just crazy after 2 weeks of vacation, that's all. I'm back now! :pirate:

An old buddy of mine rented a lakehouse in Fair Play and we used to have some pretty good parties out there. He fell off of his dock in January one time, I was laughing so hard I almost fell in too! Thanks for bringing back that old memory!

Simply Complicated is a clever song in the tradition of humorous songs. There are numerous others I'd vote below it for my least favorite.

And on a different note... anyone wonder if some of the songs we considered Jimmy classics were released today if we would think they were cheesy or stupid?
