Tryin toreason with h'cane season.off the coast of Carolina

Post by Calypso Poet 99 »

I just couldn't resist when I read about tropical storm Alex off the coast of S. Caroila today.
I hope all of you BN'ers in Alex's path weather the storm well. How about giving the rest of us some updates as the storm developes? I guess my question is, is the sky a most peculiar grey?
Each day is better than the next.

All I can say is this storm better turn back out to sea. I'm heading to Topsail Island, NC on Thursday and I don't want to see anything but sun, sand and bikinis. :-)

And, yes, for those of you in the Carolinas now, positive thoughts and well wishes to you - weather the storm well should it come ashore.

Our family vacation last year in the OBX started the day after the big hurricane last year. We didnt know if we were going to have to make other plans, or if everything would be as planned. Fortunately everything turned out alright.

Reasoning with hurricanes is nothing. Alex isn't as bad as he could have been. He is actually heading back out to sea right now, so you vacation shouldn't be bothered with a storm. However, you may see quite a bit of rain. Enjoy your trip and know that other PHs would love to be there with you.

And not necessarily in that order.

And yes, I wish everyone the best in Alex's path.

Quite true. I should have said bikinis, surf, bikinis, sun, bikinis, sand...

Well, you get the idea.

Last week a friend sent a link to where he would be spending his vacation this week - you guessed it - a ResortQuest property in OBX. His note said "don't you wish you were here? HA HA HA!" Today, I replied to him & all the others named in the email with a note - "Curt's vacation photos attached." I attached a half dozen hurricane disaster pix.

Not actual Hurricane Alex photos, and really hope everyone survived it okay, of course.

Yeah, they've all been fixed. I was out there for a few weeks not too long ago. You can still see the chunks of asphalt beside the road as you head up to hatteras ferry. (i come down from the south on the Cedar Island Ferry...gotta love the 2 hr trip!) In some spots there were no dunes left at all. It may still look rough out in that 5 mile stretch of nothing, but its a lot better than when I was there back in Dec. and Feb. Have fun!! A go check out the Gathering Place...one of my favs on the island.

The weather and fun and sun in OBX should be good for you guys. Hatteras and some of the other coastal towns got ripped with some 80 mph winds, but nothing severly damaged. Looks like everything will be in line for your trips. Have fun.

Well....right now it says Ocracoke is closed to anyone but emergency personel and residents.

My boyfriend called the Hatteras visitors center and they told him all the campgrounds are closed as of now.

I'm remaining hopeful that everything will be in order by Aug. 16

They're evacuating Ocracoke Island of all tourists today to make way for the clean-up crews. I'm sure everything will be ok in a week or so but if anyone planned on going there this weekend, call first.

thanks for the article..very informative. Ocracoke is like my home away from home..even though I only go there a week out of the year....isnt that funny?

Anyway, my heart is dead set on making it to Ocracoke. I think Ill make it there.
