Maui, Island Music, and CIP

Post by wanderingtoes »

I've been in Maui for the last two weeks and thought I would pass on a few thoughts about the Island and Buffett. The two most played Buffett songs in Paradise seem to be Brown Eyed Girl and Margaritaville. I heard them a number of times in stores and at Happy Hour at the Hula Grill. The songs are cool played Island style by the locals. I ask the manager at CIP if they had any offical ties with Jimmy and the answer was no. She also stated they were opening additional stores. The menu gives the history of the restaurant, stating it was founded after hearing the song CIP. It is a very popular place. with a long wait everyday. I'm not sure how they get by Jimmy's lawyers, but they are very successful and the name is well represented by great food. Could they be partners with Jimmy in the States? At any rate Jimmy's music is very popular in Maui and it was fun hearing it in such a great spot. Also, I wish Jimmy would have an extended stay in the Islands and write some new songs. I heard a number of Island Music songs that would be great Buffett tunes. Sounded a lot like his older stuff.

I think now that Outcrack has licensed the CiP name as a restaurant, that name will go by the wayside (or to court) very soon.

I might be wrong, WT, but I think the CiP in Maui and Jimmy have come to some kind of an agreement about their use of the CiP name.

I'm not sure if your talking about the CIP in Lahina or Wailea. The one in Lahina is clearly the best. Great place to watch a sunset and listen to some live music. Buffett is a big deal in Hawaii. I have a newspaper from Hawaii the day after he played in Oahu and there is a big picture of Jimmy on the front page. They very much appreciate him. I hope to get him to autograph my newspaper some day.

I am not a jealous person, but I will make an exception in this case. I booked the Oahu trip immediately after the date was announced. Then the Maui concert was announced several weeks later. I much prefer Maui. I could not get away from the office long enough to make both concerts. You, my friend, are very lucky.

I can only imagine how it would be to see Jimmy in Maui and I agree they would love him. The place is warm and friendly anyway. I stayed in both Lahina (Ka'anapali Beach) and Wailea. My choice would be Ka'anapali Beach. The CIP in Lahina is great and the sunsets are off the charts. There maybe something better to have, but for tradition sakes, I went with the CB's. I can't imagine a better place for a honeymoon than Maui. My son was married there on this trip and I know he and his new bride were thrilled. I'm not certain they will come back and I'm only half joking. Maui will change your Latitude and most important your Attitude, quite a place.

My wife and i had our honeymoon in Maui and it was incredible. I would trade everything i own (excluding my buffett collection) for a grass hut and a chevette to live in Maui full time. The CIP was an awesome place to have drinks and the entire town of Lahina was great. I would recommend drinking all the free wine at the art galleries on the street. Those of you who have gone understand what i am saying it is not cheap in Hawaii anywhere.

Hula Grill is abosolutely one of the best places in all the world. It's the perfect setting for a cheeseburger and a mai tai, sitting at a table, litterally on the beach, toes in the sand and sun on the horizon.

I have had the good fortune of visiting Maui multiple times and the even better fortune of seeing Buffet at the Maui Arts Center...its a pilgrimage all Parrothead should undertake.

My favorite Maui resturant is Mama's Fish House, in Paui...on the road to Hanna...its ocean front, has a great little public beach adjacent to the resturant with great snorkling and food and boat drinks to die for...fresh catch of the day can't be beat!!!

Besides, its locally owned and we all know that its best to skip the chains and give the locals our $$$ whenever we can.

Great advice. Start a thread, and you will get some good ideas. The first issue is what island to go to. Then you have to decide which section of that island to stay on. Hawaii is my second favorite topic. :D
