Favorite Buffett Covers...

Post by Fins21 »

Just wanted to know some people's opinion as to their favorite Buffett cover song. Mine would have to be "Southern Cross", but there are some great songs in that list. Just curious!

Top 5-
Uncle John's Band
Southern Cross
Banana Republics
Coastal Confessions
Brown Eyed Girl (BROWN EYED GIRL-THERE, I've said it). 8)

Does anyone know if Jimmy actually wrote "Blue Guitar", which has been recorded by Roger Guth and Peter Mayer? Or did one of them write it? If it's a cover, add that to the list.

1) Scarlet Begonias
2) Mexico
3) Southern Cross

My wife an I saw the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young concert when they toured together last year, and she commented how she liked Jimmy's version of Southern Cross better (I must admit I agree). Then I got to thinking that all of the "famous" covers he's done, I prefer Jimmy's version to the original. Maybe that's why he picks the covers that he does, because he can sing them with as much (if not greater) enthusiasm and maybe even improve on the original???

Peter wrote it (probably with Jim and Roger), then Jimmy decided he wanted to record it and messed with it. I really prefer their original, scaled back version.

I prefer the Jimmy version of BEG, but I'm pretty tired of hearing it in concert.

Do you think that Jimmy has to get permission to use the songs?? I figure that he has to if he is planning on putting them on a cd, but do you think he would if he was just using the song in concert??

I brought Far Side Of The World to the office with me today. According to the liner notes Blue Guitar was wrtten by Roger and Peter.

Didn't Jimmy write Coastal Confessions?
