The Vote for Change Tour.... You Going??

Post by SchoolGirlHeart »

We've discussed similar themes a number of times -- artists making political statements during their shows. But this time, it's billed as a political show. You know that's what you're getting.

So I'm curious... If the Vote for Change Tour (see quote below) comes to a town near you, are you going to attend?

Mine is the first "No" vote on the board. Not because I'm against the tour, or for/against a particular candidate, but because I like my entertainment and my politics *separate*.... No matter if the concert is Pro-Democrat or Pro-Republican, no doubt something would be said that would upset me, and I don't want that to spoil the view I have of the artists when it comes to their *music*... On the other hand, it doesn't bother me a bit that others will go and enjoy the shows. Not trying to start an argument, here, PLEASE! Just curious as to whether people will be attending. :D

From the News thread that generated this poll:

An announcement is expected tomorrow (Aug. 4) with details of the upcoming Vote for Change tour, presented by MoveOn.Org's political action committee MoveOn PAC and America Coming Together (ACT), an organization advocating change in government.

Jimmy Buffett is mentioned as one of the acts that will be performing.

If Buffett is there I am going. Be interesting to see how this one plays out. Seeing how others have voted as to their political affiliation I have my ideas as to how it will tally.

I voted "yes", although it would of course depend on venue, lineup, price, schedule...
I'm the kind of person who keeps herself confused by trying to keep the things in my
head "fair & balanced" (please don't sue me!) so I can keep political, religious, moral,
etc., discussions separate from emotional response.
(Discussions about weather, fashion, and the like REALLY SET ME OFF! though.  )

It's NO for me. I'd like to catch another JB show but will have to wait for an actual tour date......or at least one that's not politcally affiliated. It'd be tough for me to really enjoy with all the Democratic bias that would be filling the air.

definitely, as always.... I mean for the poll to consider that all other things are equal: the venue, lineup, price, schedule, etc are all a go, and the only decision point is the political nature of the event.

At first I thought the title of the thread said ".....vote for THE change tour" and I thought "now who on EARTH would actually WANT "the change?????"

Wasn't there a thread somewhere else as to whether Jimmy was a Dem or a Rep?

probably. Jimmy's been a pretty strong supporter of Democratic Party candidates.

Not sure if there was a thread, she said, getting back on topic (and rhyming also, thank you very much  ) but I'd bet the farm that he's a Democrat.

I voted yes for the sole reason it could mean another Buffett show this year. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't go.

Pay Extra money to hear Artists say bullcrap for hours. NO THANKS. Went to Farm Aid one year, and had enough of it after an hour of Neil Young chanting STOP FACTORY FARMS for an HOUR STRAIGHT.

I've made contributions to moveon.org already and will probably make more before the election....if I can get a concert ticket out of my next donation, that would be awesome!

All I got for my first donation was one of these bumper stickers....

I'd go if they come to my area, but if there was no Buffett than there would be no DsilCaribe at the concert :D

I highly doubt anyone who's lived in Key WEst could be anything but a Dem. If Jimmys shows up at the Michigan show Im there, if not I'll skip, but not voting, not this year

It's pretty obvious that this concert would be for mostly democrats or the more liberal republican. I stick to the rallies bc I am a poor democrat :)
When Clinton came to West Palm and Jimmy sang - I hate to admit it but we weren't there for Clinton - his plane was delayed and Jimmy had to play extra.... darn.

I just hope no matter what everyone's stance - do the research and get out and vote - negative ads s*** and people who don't vote - that is your choice but don't complain about politics.

VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! :D
