Honeymoon in Hawaii
Alright folks, I need major help. My fiance' is really wanting to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. She's been twice before and loves it, but I've never been. We definately want to go to Honolulu and Maui. We also really want to have a hotel room on the beach with a beach view. She really likes the Westin Hotel, but that's all she's really been to. Please help, we have to book soon to use her frequent flyer miles.

Beach Marriott is very nice, same kind of deal. Maui the Hyatt, Sheraton
on Black Rock and my all time fav is the Fairmont Kea Lani. When are you going?

Ain't nothing like the Hotel Hanna on Maui....old world charm and first class accomodations...its out of the way and a fun drive to get to along the Hana Highway.
It ain't the Four Seasons or some of the other 4/5 star hotels throughout the islands but its one of my favorites and where I would go if a nice quiet, romantic honeymoon was on the agenda.

Re: Honeymoon in Hawaii
Having done this several times, I would point out the following:Bob Roberts wrote:Alright folks, I need major help. My fiance' is really wanting to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. She's been twice before and loves it, but I've never been. We definately want to go to Honolulu and Maui. We also really want to have a hotel room on the beach with a beach view. 1) Honolulu, especially Waikiki Beach, is a very crowded city. It's got traffic, crowded beaches, etc. It has great shopping, but that is not why I go to Hawaii.
2) The big pink hotel is the Royal Hawaiin, and it is very nice. I also recommend the hotel next door, the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. It is usually a little cheaper. Both hotels will put you in the middle of the action.
3) I warn you that switching islands is a time killer. You can fly directly to Oahu or Maui. To get to Waikiki takes about 35 minutes in a cab from the airport. You can literally kill half a day by checking out, getting to the airport, getting to the next island and checking in to a new hotel.
4) If you go to Oahu, I highly recommend going up to the north shore. It has giant waves. Go to the Turtle Bay resort and hang out a little. That area is true Hawaii.
5) When you go to Maui, there are essentially three areas - Wailea, Ka'anapali, and Kapalua. As a Buffett fan, my guess is you will be happy in Ka'anapali. It is close to Lahaina, a great town, and you are in a fairly central location. All three areas are nice, but Wailea is a little too nice for me. It is quite beautiful, but it does have a master planned community feel to it.
6) Most people take the road to Hana when they go to Maui. It is a fun, yet dangerous drive. If you decide to make the trek, get one of those audio tapes that takes you along the drive. They are available at the gas station in Kahului, right next to the airport. That is where your adventure will begin. It is a long drive and a b**** to get back on when you have had a little too much margaritaville along the way. It is still worth it.
7) The big decision for me is airfare and airports. I have killed way too much time in the airport. I now try to stick to one island if I can. Hopefully you have some time available so you can see two islands.
9) For my money, there is no place like it in the world.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

My parents started spending February in Hawaii a few years ago- they used www.vrbo.com the second year, and spent less on the entire month than they did on hotels in two weeks the first time- and they stayed in cheaper or cheap hotels- and the condo is incredible.

If you want the best deal you should book it as a package, a package would include your airfare lei greeting, car rental hotel. Packages can be customized to you tastes at very affordable prices. Going on line doesn't always save money and if something happens on your trip or
before your trip you have nothing to fall back on.
By the way the Sheraton Moana is under extensive renovations.

Jeep Girls advice is right on the money. I get to the islands every other year and getting a condo or house is the best idea....maybe not for a first timer but definately if you are going to spend any serious time in the islands.
Using a good travel agent is always a great idea. The net if fine for shopping around and booking business flights but for travel to the islands, your travel agent will save you way much more $$$ than the fee she charges.
The last time we went (Christmas on Kauai in 2003), my travel agent did some real magic with package deal at the Hyatt Kauai in Puipu for the first three nights untill the beach front house I found on the net was available. Then with multiple return trips for the family (I stayed an extra week solo working) she saved us tons of money!!
Let Jeep Girl book the trip...she sounds like she loves Hawaii and her recomendations in this thread have been right on the money.
