Buffett playing for John Kerry

Post by finupbarefootchildren »

According to the August 12 edition of the NY Post, Jimmy Buffett will play a $1000 a head fundraising event for John Kerry on August 21. It will be held at the Alan and Susan Patricof's Hunting Lane home in the Hamptons from 5-7pm.

John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry will be hitting up the Hamptons for over $3 million on Saturday, August 21. First is a fund-raiser co-hosted by Alan and Susan Patricof and big donor Stan Shuman and his wife, Sydney. The $1,000-per-head event is expected to haul in over $500,000 and will feature a performance by Jimmy Buffett.

I don't understand why Jimmy supports John Kerry.........maybe it's the flip-flop thing? I'd pay $1K for Jimmy in an intimate setting but not if the money helps Kerry.

It's not for you to understand why Jimmy supports whomever he supports politically - that's his business.

Good for him. I thought maybe he would join the Vote for Change tour with Springsteen, R.E.M., Dave Matthews, etc. If I had an extra $1000 laying under my pillow I would be there in a heartbeat. I'm gonna bet that soon-to-be-President-elect Kerry is a closet Parrothead. And I'm pretty sure that Bush doesn't know what a Parrothead is.

I am sure that in his day... Shrub could hoover enough coke to keep an entire phlock dancin' in the aisles for days.. and could drink enough to swing the per-share price of Seagram's if it were M'ville Tequila...

Seeing John Kerry kite-sailing shows me that he knows how to have fun.
He also plays a pretty mean bass guitar, and knows how to boogie.

John Kerry is definitely a Parrothead!

George Bush, meantime, can be found scrambling about, trying desperately to bolster a falsely-recovering economy,
working his very hardest to discredit the feats of bravery
of a true wartime veteran, and...

wait a minute!...

Now this is what I would call flip-flopping!

I'm sure the Bush team has already got the pollers in the field and, if it helps favorables, he'll mention he's a Parrothead 37 times in Monday's speeches. Of course if the overnight polls show that it turns people off, he'll never mention it again and will, in fact, try to make you believe that he has ALWAYS not been a Parrothead.

What's nice about Jimmy is that he will do this event - but he will also (betting dollars to Krispy Cremes) that he will still do the West Palm Airport for a free rally. If I am wrong I will eat my margaritaville shorts. Florida is a key state - so I am guessing Monday before the election he will be in West Palm at a little aviation aite he flies out of.

And the flip-flopping is on my nerves. If we did a study... we will find that Bush flip flops way more than Kerry. I will work on this and get back to you with the results. If the only bad thing about John Kerry is that he flip flopped once or twice - it doesn't hold a candle to the lies Bush has told while in office. From brain stem research to lies about why wewent to war, pushing his religous agenda. enuf enuf!

I could care less, and its his business, who he supports politcally. However, it should never be a topic or expressed in any way during a concert attended by fans of all political or apolitical genres. When the paying fan uses hard earned money to attend a show, politics should be set aside for those few hours. (Linda Ronstadt was wrong to include politics at her recents concerts....its not a free speech issue as the fans are PAYING for the performers appearance) So far Jimmy Buffett has never to my knowlegde includied politics in his concerts....He is of course welcome to perform for a fundraiser of a candidate because those who paid know in advance what they are paying for.

Well said.......and I agree, I don't think Jimmy will be saying much politically. Maybe John kerry will know a couple of the songs Jimmy plays, and maybe George W. knows those same couple of songs, I won't be casting my vote for G.W. based on that or John Kerry's flip-flops.
