I was looking up JB Albums and I found this title. It says it's not made anymore.
Does anyone have it?
Why did they stop making it?
And what does the cover look like?
Can anyone help me?

I believe the Before the Salt double vinyl was made by Barnaby themselves to cash in on the recordings they had after Margaritaville became a hit and JB was a known name. After that, the recordings from Down To Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee as well as 2 other tracks (Richard Frost and High Cumberland Dilemma, recorded during the DTE and HCJ sessions respectively) were placed in the hands of the Celebrity Licensing Inc. and any label that wanted to lease the masters from them to make their own album could do so. The record company that owns the majority of Jimmy’s recordings (MCA) were the first (I believe) to take advantage of this opportunity and released the Before the Beach CD (the reason it’s the compilation we see in the MMIM booklet discography). This was the only way to own the material from Jimmy’s first two albums on CD for quite some time. Later came American Storyteller, Captain America, Best of the Early Years and There’s Nothing Soft About Hard Times, all released on different labels. Out of all those overwhelming compilations, I’m surprised a CD issue of Before the Salt is not among them. Varese Records was the only label who didn’t have their heads up their butts and released two individual CDs with the original tracks listings (with the exception of the extra songs being included as bonus tracks) and front covers. This did not happen until 1998. Funny thing is, in the Parrothead Handbook bundled with BBB&B (which is from 1992), it states on the discography page that Margaritaville Records (MCA imprint) planed to release DTE and HCJ on CD the following year (93). They never did, instead we got the single disc cop out that is Before the Beach (which omitted several songs from the 2 albums).
Just one of the many messes that has been made of the wonderful Jimmy Buffett Discography. I think Jimmy needs to sit down with Howard Kaufman and discuss putting that Celebrity Licensing Inc. deal to death.

This is a 1979 reissue of Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee issued by Barnaby Records. In includes the song "Richard Frost" which was recorded at Barnaby Records but not released on either of the first 2 albums.

I have it on vinyl, and have had it transferred to CD.
Can't give you any more details right now, because I'm not at home, but if everything PM and urlcenter said doesn't cover it, let me know and I'll try to give you more details!
If I remember, "Richard Frost" is the only difference between this and Before the Beach.

I thought you just really wanted to get your point across!

I really do want to get my point across, but not that much! It figures, it's probably the most educated post I ever made. Oh well, I did all the editing I could to clean the mess up. What was happening was I clicked submit and the progress bar at the bottom of my screen just dragged. So I stopped the process, and clicked submit again, unknown to me that it actually went the first time!

Yes, I am. You got me.
Seriously, I waited quite awhile for it and thaught it was going nowhere.
Back on topic, I must add one thing: I have read that the mixes differ between the compilations. I own the Varsee releases of both albums and recall hearing Ellis Dee at the Margaritaville Café in Key West while on vacation and thinking it sounded different to my ears. Chances are they got it off of Before the Beach.

I'll have to double-check my record when I get home. It was a rare find, I admit!

I bought it many years ago, vinyl, PM pretty much said it all. It has a beach scene on the cover, umbrella, sand, sky and the feet of a female obviously laying on the beach.

Aside from the remixing the biggest difference between Before the Salt and Before the Beach is the omission of three songs on "Beach". Those songs are "The Christian?", "Richard Frost" and "Ain't he a genius". Both "The Christian?" and "Ain't he a Genius" both were released on Down to Earth and Before the Salt. "Richard Frost" was a bonus track on "Salt".
