Yeah, but the probation officers had trouble getting their weapons into Greece.CaptainP wrote:Athens is probably the safest place in the world right now.land_shark3 wrote:I loved the comment; "this team was put together after others dropped out for 'security' reasons".

Remember the old dream team?
How come the new team can't get anybody like them or is this the best there are? I dunno as I don't watch much NBA.
Seems like the new generation of NBA stars are'nt quite the caliber of the old.
Either way they should still crush everyone.
All problems aside, when they get on the court you got no choice but to play and they should be waxing.
I hope they just had a bad day against a suprisingly good Puerto Rican team and will still bring home the gold.
And as for them being overpayed, if the owners can make mega millions off of them then it's only right they make millions too in my opinion.
And Iverson actually spoke pretty well afterwards and did not come accross as arrogant, giving credit to the other team.
Why is Shaq Fu not playing?

"it's crazy and it's different but it's really bein' free"

if I remember right, in '92, the pro players were eager to go and play, for the prestige, for the opportunity to PLAY TOGETHER AS A TEAM and for their country. There was considerable criticism when Christian Laettner was named as the one collegiate player (wasn't Shaq the other main contender) and all took enormous pride in being on the team. magic Johnson, who was retired, Michael, karl, Charles and all of them.
Now it is all about me, me, me-the arrogance is unbelievable. Larry Brown has been commenting about the team not "gelling" and boy was that obvious today.
And iverson was ok in the interviews, but I got no sense of urgency, or leadership. Apparently they just don't care!

The quality of the NBA has declined in the last 10 years. The players in the NBA are not as fundamentally sound as the rest of the world, and they don't have as much heart now that they have all the$$$$$ they want. Players in teh NBA can not play against zone defense and they are not as good of outside shooters as the rest of the world. 3-24 from 3point, that's 12%
The real Dream Team in 92 had it all. But now a'days if you look at the best outside shooters in the NBA most of them are foreign players. To be fair if the original players who were choosen could have put their contract concerns and everything else aside there would be no competition in Athens. Maybe it's time to bring back trials and give the college kids a shot too. A good mix of colleg and pros might work.
Sorry for the ramble-I'm abig hoops fan and have crinched at the play or the USA teams in the past few years.

But if that was the case, they would have staged some sort of comeback, and that never happened. They were totally outplayed and didn't really seem to care all that much that Puerto Rico humiliated them.CaptainP wrote:The US just appeared to have an attitude of "It's only Puerto Rico. After the strike, my feelings toward the NBA have not changed one bit. Here's my list of demands:
1) expand the court by 20% in all directions
2) raise the basket to 20 feet
3) increase the weight of the ball to 10 pounds
4) totally revamp the foul penalty (in order to get a free throw, there must be blood drawn otherwise no foul)
You would see a whole different game....altogether.
It just doesn't do anything for me anymore at all.

In addition; any foul within the last two minutes, does NOT stop the clock.chalksoperations wrote:After the strike, my feelings toward the NBA have not changed one bit. Here's my list of demands:

one thing a lot of people don't realize is how many other teams are now made up of NBA players too... the original dream team played against like 3 other NBA players on other teams....
blame the NBA season for not getting the best players. the playoffs are hardly done and summer camp starts about when the games are over...
