Wrigley Field is falling down, falling down

Post by Ilph »

So, there might not be a game in Wrigley tonight because big chunks of concrete are falling from the roof? Did anyone else hear this on the news this morning?

It's not new news, but they are being RE-inspected today. The city seems to think the Cubbies lied to them on the last inspection, and are p***, so there is a real chance this will happen. Stay tuned.

in a nutshell....

cubbies - no problem, it's all fixed.

city - then why did some more chunks fall down?

They have received the green light from the Building Commissioner....PLAY BALL.. Although it would have been interesting to watch a game being played with no one in the stands...sort of like a Devil Rays game

I'm sure they will do some serious renovation during the off-season.

That is certainly what everyone expects, but unless you have a source that I don't, no official word has been made public yet though the announcement was expected 30 minutes ago. But there should be a game with a big crowd tonight!

i am a huge Cubs fan, but i do think that management has been arrogant in their handling of all of this. They are lucky that none of those 3 chunks hit anyone or there would be a lawsuit.

With 40,000 standing room only fans at every game, the mayor is right to insist that this all be done properly. I have been there 3 times this season with 3 more to go (including Friday) and I want to make sure that it is safe.

Just announced on the news.

Game on

The city found no evidence of bad repairs. However Wrigley Field will be monitored till the end of the season and repairs will be made when necessary. However, Wrigley Field has to make perminante repairs before next season because they won't let them play with the safety nets next season.
Searching is half the fun: life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party.

Right answers from all sides. The place is safe, at least for now; the game can go on, with fans, and those stupid nets have to be replaced with a more permanent solution for next year.

Now, if my team can just string together a few wins!

That kind of thing spelled the beginning of the end for the KingDome here in Seattle.

Yep...just a matter of time before Tribune-Stadium is built for the "New" Cubs.
