In the City

Post by Floridaze »

I’m tuned in to RadioMargaritaville and “In the City” just came on and brought back some fond concert memories. I use to love it when they would flash up some video of Jimmy riding his bike or shots from his seaplane of the city the concert was in….I love that song. Believe it is another great Mac song...Too cool – Jimmy’s version just ended and now Mac’s singing the song!

That's a great song, the story Mac told about it when he did his show was so funny as well!

I've forgotten what the history of that song was...

Would you mind sharing it with us?

Mac is from a real small town is Mississippi. When he was 18 he recorded his first album and got a record contract which included a plane ticket to LA. His family was agahst that he would consider going to the "city". Or something or other along these lines.

Great, great song.

Aghast and certain if he went, he would only last like 5 minutes before they shot him for fun or something.

"... where our biggest export is spare time." That's what he said at the show in Indy last month.

Back in '91 or '92 a the Southhampton University benefit Jimmy does every few years, Mac actually performed "In The City" himself while Jimmy took a little break. It was great... and one of my all time favorites too.
in my contract there's this clause that says "it's my job"

In the City, love that song also. It just seems that when you pull out a Mr. Buffett CD, one that you have not played in a while and put it in the CD player and as the music begins it is kind of like putting on your favorite pair of slightly worn shoes, or jeans, or that favorite T-shirt, they just feel good, fit right, no break in period.
I guess that is what has amazed most being a relative new PH about Buffett and Mac's music. A history of neat songs that can bring a tear or a smile as you listen and think about past times.
Love the version of In the City on the live, Feeding Frenzy CD. Mac is an amazing artist unto himself.
