people who go to these demonstrations generally dont have jobs so they dont really know about getting to work and stuff like that.
And just how did you arrive at that bit of misinformation? I know plenty of people that protest (including myself) that are gainfully employed individuals. Protesting is not unique to just Democrats either unless you don't refer to abortion clinic bombings as a form of protest.
i said generally.maybe you missed that part.the majority of professional protesters around here do nothing.unless running back to CT to withdraw some money from their trust fund is considered work
do you people think that protesting accompishes anything?other than getting more people p*** off at you :-?
and no i dont consider bombing abortion clinics a form of protest,i consider it terrorism.

Right... "security measure" is a euphemism for it.
NYC is expecting more than 250,000 people to be here participating in demonstrations during the Republican convention. Should they be allowed to demonstrate whenever, wherever and in whatever way they choose without regard to public safety? Before you answer think how you'd feel if 250,000 people were headed to your hometown intent on doing their best to disrupt as many peoples' lives as they could for 4 days. Would you still think "security measure" is a euphemism?
Yes, it can accomplish a lot.

I'm speaking of non-violent protest, of course.

why don't you just not read the topics that you do not want to hear (read) about? I never understood how people complain about a topic whan all they have to do is skip right on by it? If you hear a song on the radio you don't like do you continuse to listen to it as well?

That obviously would sound like the easy thing to do...but it seems as if every thread anymore is centering around politics and bashing somebody.....

Let's see.... off the top of my head, the end of British rule in India, civil rights in the united states, the right of women to vote in the US, the downfall of the Milosovich government...

The founding fathers were implicitly clear that they felt the right of people to gather, protest, and express their views were fundamentally important to a working democracy. They felt that it was important for people and groups of people to have the right to attempt to raise the awareness of their issues or grievances to other citizens.

You may not agree with every protest but its importance as a form of expression is undeniable.

I have no problem with peaceful demonstrations or protest for a just cause. The problem with this asanine event is that with every protest more and more cops and security are being pulled away from protecting us from the individuals who are really putting us in harms way.

Welcome to a free society.... it's not up to us to decide which expression is worthwhile and which isn't - we simply have to allow all of it.

I agree somewhat. It appears that some people are somewhat confrontational and seek out confrontations or ways to provoke people. My complaint for quite a while is the lack of respect that has been happening here. I don't care if your views are different just please state them with respect and in the manner in which you would like someone to address you.

You're certainly right but in my opinion every American owes it to other Americans not to jeapordize someone elses safety... especially in these unstable times.
