Fans of Country, Meet the Parrot Heads

I'm listening to US99, Chicago's country station.

Last night was Jimmy's 1st concert since LTC zoomed to the top of the country charts for 6 or 7 weeks, whatever it was. You'd think aliens landed!

Lisa Dent keeps talking about all of the calls she's getting from listeners who went to the concert last night... and the sights seen with the parrot head invasion on Tinley Park. It sounds like it was a new experience to many of them.

Coconut bras
Grass skirts
Vehicles covered with window paint
Tiki Bars

And the lots were full of such antics! :o   Way to go Thursday nighters! Let's see if we can raise it another notch tomorrow - where Lisa herself will be in attendance. Let's make sure we leave a lasting impression!

But the underlying message from everyone is how much fun it was, and how awesome Jimmy was!

I'm just so proud!

By the way... I knew Jimmy's music long before my 1st concert, but I will never forget the awe, wonder, and amazement of the 1st time! It is a spectacle beyond spectacles!

There is nothing like the shock and awe of your 1st Jimmy concert. I remember mine like it was about 10 years ago. The thing I remember the most about it was that my best buddy and me went on a bus qith about 40 other people. On the way there I said to my bud, "there are only 2 women on this bus that I don't want to sleep with right know. We live with them."

I can't believe you left the phrase "parrothead virginity" out of your thread title.

I've seen him at least once a year for too long to recall each of them clearly, although maybe it's the margaritas that get in the way. But I do remember my wife's reaction to our first Buffett concert, which introduced her to Bubba. Not ones to take half measures, we started at the top of the heap (Alpine) and she was blown away, even though we got there late (4 pm). That got her hooked, it's our "summer time crazy" release from normal life.

I can only imagine what the country crowd from last nite would have thought if it had been Alpine instead of Tweeter.

That's hilarious!!

I was so dissappointed at my very first Buffett show! We didn't know better and got there around 7:30, ended up at the back of the lawn with all of the SYKBH yuppies. I still had a good time, but I didn't start tailgating until after I was 21.

The RV Lot in Dallas was too remote to be seen by the country fans. I did basically the same setup at Kenny Chesney a week later and it was a big hit there. You're right, the country fans have never seen anything like what they're about to experience. Y'all break 'em in good now you hear?

I've been a fan of country music (the real stuff, not the kind that passes for it on commercial country radio these days) for a long, long time, so does that mean I shouldn't attend Buffett concerts at the risk of upsetting the parrothead elite?

Well, I'm not nearly that closed minded or selfish about my musical likes or dislikes so I feel for the newer fans that don't meet the criteria of some parrothead's definition of "true fans".
