I am finally going to Key West Florida for a holiday. What are the must see spots for a ParrotHead. Does anyone know where Mailboat Records is located.

Good for you dburdeniuk! (That's quite a name.) Key West is one of my husband's and my favorite places in the world. We go once every year or so, and will make two visits this year. Here's a thread that addressed your question recently with plenty of fine suggestions... just click on the link: http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... t=key+west
Hope that helps...

Take the Trails of Margaritaville tour, it is a lot of fun and you might learn something (if you can remember anything after all the drinks! :pirate: )

How long will you be there?
I've been 2 times and still haven't seen it all. A total of 9 days so far. Geeze, it's a 4x2 mile island, am I spending too much time in the bars?

Well, if you go in the next couple of days, you can help Margaritaville board up again for another hurricane warning ....

My friend who owns a nice little motel in Key Largo is boarding up today...

Jimmy's recording studio is Shrimp Boat Sound, located across the dock from Conch Republic resturant in the old marina area. It is a small white building, no windows, right at the corner of the dock. WIth some step up stairs to the front door...

Conch Republic is nice, like an ice house, they roll up the walls for all open air, overlooking the marina... real good food too. If you sit at the bar, you can keep an eye on Shrimp Boat Sound to see if anyone is there...

The southernmost mile marker is on the FAR end of Duval St, away from the shops/bars. Near where JB used to live. Lots of older homes in that area. :o

Maybe call your friends from the sloppy joe's bar and tell them to log on, you are on SJ's web cam! LOL

Having been to KW, I have a question, can you actually see the sunset from Mallory Square with the islands in the way???

And... Key Lime pie!!!!! :P

Also if you have the money (because it's realllly expensive but beautiful) Go to the Hilton and make reservations to go out to dinner on sunset key..... It's amazing. It's absolutely beautiful out there we did it for the first time ever this year it rocked.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the information. We will be there for 5 days. Do you think I should reserve a catamaran sailing, snorkeling tour, or do they usually have room. Has anyone been on Island Ting? Thanks again for all the information. I will for sure check out the recording studio.

I was in Key West Sunday - and NO you can't see the darn Sunset from Mallory Square because of that big stupid island!

But I digress.

Completely stumbled onto Jimmy's studio by accident, I got all turned around and somehow thought it was completely far away from where we were. But VOILA I wound up in front of it. Ate at the Conch Republic, it was awesome! (Service sucked, but food and atmosphere was great.)

I will post on my Key West thread soon, still trying to catch up.

I have to say though, I was surprised at how small Margaritaville was!

Both of you, Brown Eyes, I am so jealous! Gosh, are you related? You both were in Key West at the same time...but I see now you are from different locations!
One day, my hubby and I will live on Key West. We're going to spend Thanksgiving there this year, as my hubby pirate looks at 50! That sunset cruise sounds marvelous; haven't done that yet.

We spent a day in Key West in July, and did not make glass bottom boat reservations before that morning, so no need to make snorkeling reservations before you get there. Discovery is a good snorkeling/glass bottom boat line.

visit the Chart Room...a tiny bar located inside the Pier House Resort. It is the bar where the pirate from "a pirate looks at 40" worked. Jimmy played there when he first arrived in KW and met his wife there.

Best bars for me:
Blue Heaven (go now as they're planning to concrete the outside area)
Captain Tony's (any bar with bras hanging from the ceiling must be great)

Biggest Disappointments:
Chart Room Bar (looks too nice and has a resort type atmosphere, me myself I like rustic dives)
Louie's Backyard (nice spot but too uppity and a couple of drunk locals were giving us a hard time about being parrotheads)
Of course Jimmy's old apartment is right next door so that's a plus.

And stop by Fat Tuesdays. Get a LARGE "slushie", and walk/stagger around Duval for a while :D
