Cleveland Country Radio Buffet "Dis"

Post by phlisa »

Not a big country fan, but I was scanning through the stations and heard an old song I liked- I think it is called "No News" by Lonstar. Anyway, the song is about the guy's missing girlfriend and how she left and never called and he wonders if among other things she "came back as a parrothead." After the song was over, the radio guy says "Yeah, there was a reference to being a parrotheard 8 years before it was cool." I was so mad I almost called the radio station but thought the guy is an idiot and nothing I say will change it. As if he knows what's cool and if we care if he thinks we're cool or not. What an idiot. Anyway, I figured this would be the only place that I could vent that people would get it.

Some people are so clueless... The whole Parrothead phenomena has been totally out of their radar. :) :) :) Sympathizing with ya, phlisa.

Lisa honey, we're parrotheads- we're uncool by nature. (Although I'm really not happy about the whole parrothead thing becoming "cool"- if I wanted to be cool, I'd choose another band!) Nothing against any new phans, but just the people who'll become parrotheads to be cool.

DJ's are some of the dumbest! They like to say a song is brand-new when it's been out for a few months!
They are under some pressure though to keep talking, in fear of dead-air, so I guess they unfortunately say things with out thinking sometimes! But then they think - who'll notice?

I think all he meant is that currently it is a trendy thing to be a "Parrothead", but those people are not really Parrotheads, they are wannabes. He meant trendy when he said cool. Not really a cut on true PH's, in fact it probably was a compliment.

I heard a DJ on a "new country" station saying that Alan Jackson saved Jimmys career.

I took it complimentary too... in other words, any reference from this point on will be questionable on authenticity vs cashing in. Some of the writers may have just been "closet" parrot heads, while others will strike while it's hot.

When's the last time it took THAT long to sell out? Usually more like 12 minutes! (Not that you can't always find tix! Thanks, Cathy, Kev, Joann... )

Yeah, there was a reference to being a parrotheard 8 years before it was cool."
I don't get it. What was so wrong about this statement?

To new country music station listeners, Jimmy is kind of new, having hit the charts last summer with Al jackson and again this summer, so many ar probably discovering Jimmy and claiming to be Parrotheads, so it was a sarcastic comment on the mainstream success.

I really don't think of it as a dis on Jimmy, but a joke on the newbie country Jimmy fans.

I guess that's one way to look at it- but that is not how I think he meant it. I took it as though JB wasn't cool until now due to his joining up with all the country music folk. Again, not that I care who thinks liking JB is "cool" but just the fact that a DJ would make such a stupid statement on air is a bit insulting to those of us real parrotheads.

Lonestar was on to something which makes them special. Most of us were on to something before it was cool...that makes us just as special.

Oh, well. I think it is a compliment to say parrotheads were on to something before it was "cool."

On the other hand, it kinda hurts when some of those early bands who loved Buffett, regret that they ever put Buffett or parrothead in their songs.

The music business is a strange business. Seems best not to be cool to some.

This is another song to add to the trivia question: Name three (now four) country music songs that reference Jimmy Buffett ...

Oh, did you expect me to answer?
