Technical Help: iPod / iTunes

Ok, before I make this mistake again

is there anyone with iPod and iTunes experience who can help me out?
Here is my issue: I went to the trouble of importing a great number of my CDs onto my computer. I then sent them over to my iPod. Because of my limited hard drive space, I then removed most of them from my computer.
Now I want to add more songs to my iPod, but I'm afraid to update because it might delete the songs off the iPod that I deleted from my computer.
Let me know if you need more information. Thanks in advance for your help!

When I delete something from my iTunes library, it comes off the iPod the next time I update it. Mine is the new version so I can't say the same would apply with all of them.

That's the problem; I want to keep it on my iPod but take it off my computer.

I think it will have more fun in your passenger seat.

You can also transfer music manually
Manually managing the iPod music library is also helpful if you use your iPod on multiple computers or with multiple user accounts. Additionally, it also allows you to delete a song from your iTunes library, but keep it on your iPod. Make sure you have a backup copy of any music files before deleting them. Follow these steps to setup your iPod to manually transfer songs.
Connect iPod to your computer.
Open iTunes.
Select iPod in the iTunes Source list. If you don't see iPod in the iTunes Source list, then click here if you use Windows or if you use Mac OS X click here.
Click the Options button. If you don't see this button, make sure you clicked on the iPod icon in the Source list (see above).
Select "Manually manage songs and playlists" and click OK.
Now you can copy individual songs and playlists from iTunes to your iPod. Just drag the song or playlist to the iPod icon in the Source list. Tip: You must first import audio CD's into iTunes before you can move them to the iPod. If you're having difficulty copying songs to your iPod, click here.
You can also set iTunes to automatically update iPod with selected songs or playlists only. This is useful if you only want to transfer a portion of your music library to iPod.
You can't transfer songs from iPod library to iTunes, but you can use iPod as a hard disk to transfer music files from one computer to another.
Hope this helps.

ok here goes.....
you need to change your ipod from auto update to manual update. on my mac this is how i do it...
0) connect up your ipod to yout computer
1) get into itunes
2) on the bottom of the itunes window there's 4 icon buttons click on the 1 left most one that looks like an ipod.
3) you should now see the ipod preferences window.
4) click the "manually manage songs and playlists" dot. click okay....
5) to add songs to your ipod go to the itunes window and make sure the library is selected in the source pane on the left.
6) highlight the songs you want to add to your ipod and then drag and drop them on your ipod in the source pane....
7) eject your ipod and disconnect it.... you should be good to go now.

If I screw up this transfer again (almost made me miss my plane to Alpine because I had to reload all the songs) you can have mine.
