Well then, next time he shows at Starwood, we'll just have to work on showing up Cincy in the tailgating department, right?

O-HO, yeah! We seriously need to work on getting a main area for us serious tailgaters. We partied at the Best Western Music CIty Inn, was so much fun, but I have a feeling it could be a whole lot better (understatement)!

Yep, This was the first Cincy Show I decided to not go to since I started seeing Buffett shows. I went there 7 years in a row. I dont really care about the big supports in the way though, I could always move over a little and have the view of the little neon blue dot. My problem is that, in my opinion, the majority of the crowd was less and less enthusiastic every year. Of course, there's always cheering. But the crowd decibal level is nothing like it was in the late 90s, and I need that crowd loudness for me to have a great concert experience. Not to mention it gets JB more pumped up. Last year, the people around me seemed to like talking about their jobs more than enjoying the show. I remember when Jimmy said "look at you people", and my brother turned to me and said "look at
these people?". Not to mention we had just got back from an excellent Sat. Chicago show, which almost made a Tuesday Cincy concert downright boring. Remember this is just my opinion though, every body has their own aspect that makes a great show, so no Die Hard Cincy Fans attacking me,
please??

Who knows, maybe most of the people that started the parrothead phenomenon in cincy have moved to other cities like Pittsburgh, Indy, and Chicago.

Sorry to hear about all your bad experiences here in Cincy. I grew up on concerts at Riverbend. I have had both lawn and pavilion seats and have had good and bad in both seating. What I had come to figure out is the older I got and the more expensive the tickets became the less I like the lawn. Tuesday night, I bought 3 lawn tix for $45 at the gate.....funny thing, I had a great time on the lawn inspite of the poor view and the "drink till they puke" kids. But I have to be honest, pavilion is certainly the way to go. Give us another try with pavilion seats, you won't be sorry.

Well, I tend to disagree with this thread. Last year was my first Cincy show and we were front row lawn. It was not a great experience. However, this year we were 3rd row VIP section and dead center thanks to some connections. It was great! The view and sound were awesome. I also had a great time during the tailgate party. We had an RV and got to park on the grass across from Riverdowns. Last year that lot was closed. So.....compared to last year, this year was the best. Like they say, it couldn't get any worse for you, so it must get better!!

I have to disagree as well.....We drove out from South Jersey to see the show.....great atmosphere in the lots, I mean, we didn't even pay to park and the lots were actually clean at the end of the show, that is a rarity in other places (Camden NJ??!!). I will agree that the building itself needs some MAJOR improvements....what is up with ALL of the supports?? Over all though, small venue and a good show from BUBBA.......oh if that blonde that was pitching my butt all night is going to be there next year, I will be too!!!!

I have to say that the Cincy concert was the WORST Buffett show I've been to so far. Because I'm a poor grad student, I was unfortunate enough to have lawn seats. I'm also vertically challenged, so that added to my frustration in trying to see the show. The tailgating was a good time, though. And the guys seemed more attractive for some reason...

I can't speak to the seating/viewing/sound arrangement at Cincinnati but other venues that I have seen him in rate as follows:
1. Alpine Valley - I started going there in 1977 or 1978 and is was, and always will be, the very best place to see anyone. Alpine is a natural setting in an actual valley. The lawn is a real hill ("enhanced" some over the years) and surrounded by beautiful, mature hardwood trees. It is not a man-made lawn. The pavilion and stage sit at the bottom of the hill and the three section. concave wooden roof does a great job of directing the sound clearly to the pavilion and lawn seats.
2. Poplar Creek - Late, lamented venue in Hoffman Estates, IL, that succumbed due to politics and the construction of the horrible World Theater (Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, IL). Bob Seger once said that Poplar Creek's stage was the best he ever played. This was a great place but it was in the northwest Chicago 'burbs and was, I suspect, a little too close to Alpine. This was particularly true in the "haydays" of the large outdoor concerts in the late 1970's through the late 1980's when there were concerts three or four nights a week at EACH of the venues. In those days you could afford to see one or two concerts a WEEK!
3. Marcus Amphitheater - Main stage at the Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee, Jimmy played Summerfest every summer during the early '90's. Sound is great and the view away from the stage at the top of the lawn is of beautiful Lake Michigan.
4. Football field in Mobile, AL - Jimmy played his "hometown" of Mobile in the early '90's along with Clint Black and Little Feat and the football arena was better than the last venue......
5. The Tweeter Center - Tinley Park (formerly the New World Theater) - If this is the "new world", then I don't want to be part of it! Unless you are in the first section, middle area, this venue is the pits. There are too many side seats under the roof that are useless. The columns supporting the roof and the sound-muddling Skyboxes, make for many restricted view seats. The Skyboxes create a canyon effect that bounces the sound around and around if you are in the back of the pavilion or on the lawn making it impossible to understand lyrics. Does it sound like I HATE the Tweeter, gosh, I didn't think it was noticeable? I was unable to go to Alpine this year and was lucky enough to get center section seats in the 26th row at Tweeter and the sound and sight lines were okay.

I've also seen JB at Starwood and could actually see him, the acoustics (for an outside venue) were mediocre, but on the lawn in Cincinnati there was so much screaming, talking, partying, etc. going on that we couldn't hear a single word that Jimmy said inbetween songs.
Next time I trek that far to a concert, I will definitely pay the difference for pavillion seats!
And yes, Columbus was a nice venue to see him in...
Otherwise, it was a good show...but, Jimmy, puhleeze come back to Nashville!

just make sure the leg bag really is "fresh out of the container"..

That was probably due to that height thing, not the daiquiris..

Blue, save money and go the Alpine for the best overall time.
Good to meet you.

Yep. Alpine's lot has been the best of the venues visited in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I won't be making it to any Buffett shows next summer, though (Appalachian Trail and all). I will definitely keep Alpine in mind, though.

I completely agree with you. I start puttting away about 10-15 dollars a week right after whatever show I go to in Chicago. That gives me aroun 6-7 hundred dollars for 2 tickets and whayever for the next year's show. If I get lucky with ticketbstrd I go to both shows. If not I am able to get a decent ticket from a broker. If I go to a broker, I always opt gor a better seat for the Thursday show rather than the Satuday because he Thursday show is always much cheaper if you have o go this route. After that the cycle repeats itself.

Ok I'll throw in my 2 cents worth from a West Coast perspective.......
My rankings are:
1. Elbow Room, Dutch Harbor Alaska (Small Intimate Bar....couldn't get in so I listened from outside)
2. Las Vegas (Great crowd, great preparties, sin city at its best)
3. Maui (Small, awesome venue, very mellow crowd..my wife got yelled at for standing up and dancing....go figure..)
4. White River Ampitheater (good crowd, got vip seats....but they shut down the beer after 45 minutes.....)
5. Rose Garden, Portland OR (Ok venue, everybody stared at us...like being in the zoo because we had grass skirts and coconut bras...well it is Oregon...)
Would I go back to any of these?...Hell yes! If Bubba plays...I go......

I guess it depends on who you talk to....we absolutely LOVED the Cincinnati show. We thought it was one of the best we have ever seen Jimmy do. We had pavillion seats, because we don't do the lawn anymore....just too old.

The energy was high and the sound was great from our seats.
We thought he had more energy than usual and was having a great time laughing with the band between songs.
IF you want to talk about bad venues....we thought Atlanta was the worst this year. We had pavillion seats and they were suppose to be unobstructed, but we had a HUGE round pillar between us and the stage. We could either see one half of the stage or watch the screens....never did see Ralph.
Guess it all depends on the venue and where you are sitting.

I agree about Tweeter and I worked there this summer. And the employees can't stand the JB shows because they actually have to work a little harder (unlike most of the other shows in the summer that they have to practically give away tickets)..
But the Tweeter does accomodate a lot of PH's and I guess that is good. Stick to the middle of the pavilion and it's okay..
