Phans,
Every now and then a thread that has good information, and this is one.
After 111 shows at around 20 different venues in 15 years, I have never been to Cincy, put have listened to all the hype and was considering going to the core of JB fanville. Thanks to this, I will pass unless I can get terrific seats.
My short list (mirrored by some on the thread)
Best Venues:
1. Great Woods. for an overall insane East Coast Buffett experience, the East Coast Holy Grail of fun, decent venue, great cops, insane tailgate, etc. Hope Jimmy returns after his Fenway ego trip.
2. Irvine - The West Coast Holy Grail. Ditto on Great Woods comments, but out west. Problem - bathrooms for lawn area...eeek.
3. Coors - San Diego. My home port. A new venue. Super easy in/out. Only show here that the police look away at alcohol in the lot is Buffett. Great venue, clean, great lawn, decent sound, one of the best tailgates nationwide.
4. Maui - small, easy to get a drink, hell, you are in Maui, what else can I say. Negative - no tailgate whatsoever, and half the fans seemed corporate types that must have received free tix. I tried to stand during a few shows and was heckled....unreal. Still an awesome place to see Jimmy, he was very much into it.
5. Alpine Valley - cool, except for the cheesehead hats and every other person cooking sausage. Is this the only thing people eat up here? (please no hate mail for this comment, half joking).
Worst Venues:
1. Anything inside...Jimmy, outside is best.
2. Ft Lauderdale - for goodness sake, open the lot before 5 pm. For a city with a wild reputation, who are they kidding? Plus NO PORTA POTTI's. Had to party at the Hard Rock across the street until lot opened and then walk back to go to the bathroom.
3. MGM - Vegas - small issue, but how about opening a lot or two for tailgating? The inside food area is fun, but you miss the fun of a tailgate.

Mason, so true, so true. Too bad Jimmy can not, or does not choose to press this for the phans.

OK, I deserve that!
PS: Enjoyed seeing Jimmy outside Indianapolis, a show within arm's reach of corn. Pretty cool for a guy from California. Nice historic hotel in downtown I stayed at, can not remember the name, but very nice.
Peace.

I saw Jimmy inside at the Schott in Columbus, Ohio. I've seen Jimmy at Germain (Polaris) amphitheater in Columbus. I loved the Schott. I would prefer to see Jimmy there any day over an outdoor shed.

No worries! Just goes to prove that to each his/her own. I do not particularly like Indy. I saw my first show there, and saw another show there a couple years ago and just despise the set up there. The no tailgating issue is huge, of course! And corn is of no interest to me since I grew up with a corn field in my back yard.

I am someone who absolutely loved Cincy. I never experienced all the problems with the lawn or sound the three years I was there. And I only go to Tweeter in Tinley Park because it's in my back yard here in Chicago.

But, Alpine absolutely freakin' rules!!!! And talk about corn fields!!! There's a silo located at the farm house right next to the parking lot! You can't get any more rural midwest than that! I don't even really expect to travel much further than Alpine to go to a JB show. It's awesome and when you've got it that good within a 2 hours drive, why go elsewhere!

a) Columbus, OH. Great sound, in fact, better than the sound (at least via the RM broadcasts) than Cincy or Chicago. Indoor venue, and a hell of a lot of fun. All depends on the layout, and whether they were actually designed with a concept of accoustics.
b) Don't know where you've been, but Broward Co. is not exactly "sin city" anymore. Local voters there did a lot bitching about Spring Break parties, and local pols were only too willing to pander to the whining. The aftermath of that is what you saw in FLL.

I know we are talking about Riverbend, but I thought the Indy show (Tuesday) was bad this year. We had lawn seats and had a hard time hearing the show at all. Someone else mentioned, and I picked up on this as well, that pholks seemed to be more into talking amongst themselves as oppossed to paying attention to the show. I've seen JB at many different venues over the last 15 years and I thought this was one of the more "lackluster" ones. Maybe it was the threat of oncoming rain, or maybe I'm just growing older/ not up.

I would really hate to have any of you rule out Riverbend , just because of the Lawn. With very few exceptions, as long as I am not sitting behind a giant sized person wearing a tall hat. most of the pavillion is worth the trip, It seems like JB has a special energy here.
Cincinnati has the reputation for Tail gating. and partying. unfortunately the kids mostly under 25, from all over the country hear that, and it is a red flag that says PARTY, I think they try to live up to that on the lawn.
(It is known as the place to be. One kid 20 year old, I know has been to 2 concerts this year, colombus where he had decent seats and cincy. (Lawn) he did not know there was a shark
In each town we have visited this year and the last 3 years last making "road trips". the show, and pre show stuff - takes on a different complexion. ( we usually try to attend what ever function the local club is holding) Over all, as long as I am not fighting the kids on the lawn, Cincinnati stacks up well.

This happens at
every single venue... not just Riverbend.

You didn't look like Eddie Murphy in Cinci?

I've probably seen 25 shows at Riverbend. All were from Pavillion seats and I had a great time at all the shows. I have refused many lawn seats for Riverbend. I think a show would be horrible on the lawn at Riverbend.

I have been to Cincy several times, sit in the lawn, and love it.. You get there early, party all day and see a great show at night. If you don't like the lawn, buck up for the pavilion...
