Anyone else live out of their car? (vehicle)

Post by Tiki Bar »

I've got too much stuff!

I decided to drive the ol' minivan up the street for the full inside and out washing. Since they vacuum and do the windows, I thought it best to clean my junk out - HOLY CRAP!

I have piles around my desk! Briefcase, lunch bag, purse, runabout bag with drink holders (for visiting 6 Flags, zoo, parks, etc), Girl Scouts Leader bag o stuff, flip flops, volleyball, about 500 cd's, a video tape, padded envelopes, some of my keets homework, a few of their toys, stuff to return to the store, sunflower seeds, pictures, Chicago phone list, mini bar tiki bar hat, a VA PH license plate, newspaper with Jimmy article in it, sunglasses, and my BN nametag and lanyard! :o

I'm apparently prepared for anything at all times!
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

Always!! I always have a spare pair of tennis shoes, socks, at least two partially drank (drunk?) drinks, usually a change of clothes, a collector's edition of fast food bags (petrified french fries, anyone?), a golf umbrella that never made it out of the truck once I put in there, a bag of books, and that's just what's on TOP of the seats. I'm too scared to look UNDER them! :o There are also three boxes of the stuff that was on my desk at work when I lost my job four months ago. They never made it in the house. Good thing I drive a truck, and not a little teeny car!!!

No... I rarely drive my car more than 3 days a week... well, hell... now I really don't drive my car!!! But because I live in the city and park on the street, I don't leave anything inside it... not even spare change or a stray napkin. You never know what people will break into your car thinking they are going to try to steal!!! :-?

I use my car as a storage shed for everything that doesn't have a place in my apartment.

pretty much anything you should need while out you can find in my car, spare clothes, brushes, and tons of other stuff that I just "hide" away in the trunk

I actually did live out of my car quite a few years back when I was "homeless" - ie, my mother sold our family home and we had no where to go till her new home purchase was finalised. She took my younger sister to a friends place and they stayed there and I just drifted around town with all my clothes and trusted possessions in my car and stayed at different friends places each night ......

Cars dont hold much when it is your home!

But right now? mine resembles a rubbish dump! I have old mcdonalds bags ..... a dead spider (I am just hoping it disintegrates obviously!), empty drink bottles .... just junk!!! I need to get to Carlovers to give it some loving and clean it out!!!

My truck gets treated like a temple also .... I spend a couple hours a day in it going back a forth to work ... I'd rather it be clean. I figure it to be a reflection of me. Anything the kids bring into it has to leave with them when they get out, not so hard now 'cause they are older. :) :pirate:

I have a snow brush and an ice scraper in my trunk so I don't forget them when winter gets here and a ratty old beach towel that I used to use to cover the seat when I was driving home after softball games. It wasn't a successful game unless I was dirty and bleeding.

Samples... Catalogs... Change of clothes... Gym clothes... Shoes... Belts... Golf Clubs... Koozies (cause you never know when you'll find a BN party)...

However, the one thing I never can seem to keep in my car is a notepad to take notes during meetings. I can't count the number of times I've had to go by the store on the way to a meeting.

If it weren't for hubby, I probably could live out of my car. When we got our new truck though, we instituted "brand new car" rules as it was the first new new car either of us had ever owned.

There's no food, no smoking, no shoes touching the seats. Generally it stays pretty clean. Just keep the few car essentials behind the rear seat; ice scraper, tools, bungee cord. Stuff like that.

books, sure; Mail that I don't need (circulars and stuff, picked up at the PO on the way to work in the shop); gymbag (with clean clothes), and a couple atlases...

No empty bags of fast food, no half-full bags of fast food, no drink bottles (unless they have not been unsealed, like a water bottle). No pipe tobacco smell, because the windows are opened enough to create a slipstream if, and when, someone smokes in the car.

Trunk, probably needs to be cleaned out, but that is a five minute process.

Nice thing about going for an oil change at my usual Jiffy-Lube is that they vaccuum and clean the car windows.
