I'm Sorry, You Have the Wrong Number

Post by TikiTom »

I had a rather comical experience tonite with a wrong number. I was calling a friend to ask about our physics lab due tomorrow, and I accidentally dialed the wrong number. Here's what was said:

Me: "Hi, this is Tom may I speak to Jeff please?"
Her: "You have the wrong number" blah bla blah blah blah
Me: "Oh OK, sorry, Thanks" and I go to hang up, but...
Her: "Excuse me, you should apologize"
Me: "Uhhhhhhhh" thinking to myself, I already did and why would I have to anyway? before I was just being polite.
Her: "It's late"

first of all, it is not late!!!!!!!! it's 9:30 at night, that's still daytime to me
after that i just hung up, it was ridiculous, but it relieved a little of my stress at the time

Anyway, I know you've all dialed wrong numbers before, so what's the most interesting conversation with a wrong number you've had? I excpect good ones... we're parrotheads, come on  :D :D

In St Augustine I kept trying to call 12vmanrick's room but I couldn't get it right (because I'd been drinking earlier  ). Finally I got the room next to his and got them to tell him I was looking for him. I still have no idea who I talked to but it was pretty funny at the time.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

What never ceases to amaze me is the times when you get a call from someone who dialed a wrong number, and they proceed to tell you their life story. :D

I had an elderly lady call me one time, and I couldn't make her understand that she had the wrong number. After I tried to explain it to her, she would just ask to speak to the same person again. After about four attempts at explaining, she finally got it through her head that she had called the wrong number. Then, she tells me, "You see, I'm trying to call Tom. He lives up in the country, and he's got a pickup truck, and he helps me rake leaves." I said, "Well, that's nice, you give him a call." :D

I was calling my parents to come and collect me at the Army Base after being away on camp for two weeks.

The number was easy to remember (is an old number now) 4321 - 50.

I called it and a stranger answered the phone. I asked for my mother, figuring it was one of her friends. SHe said I had the wrong number. I apologised and hung up.

I redialed, figuring I had hit a number wrong, and got the same lady again. I asked this time "I am Jenny, I am looking for my mother and is this 432150" and she said "yes, but no one lives here by that name"

By this point (I was just 17) I am thinking ........ I have forgotten the number - so check the phone book - nope got it right.

So I called again - getting quite agitated, as this was abviously a bad joke they were playing on me and this lady adamantly stated that no one of that name lived at the number.

Quite concerned and thinking that I must have been an awful child and my family had upped and moved house while I was away to get away from me - I called her once last time and told her the address I was trying to get and was this that address in Newcastle.

She advised me no, she was in Sydney (a different area code to us).

I am bamboozled then the chief clerk finally remembers he had switched our army phone through to Sydney HQ for the duration of our camp and that any calls would go to the local sydney area :x

I was NEVER so relieved when I finally was able to get my parents and find out they had not run away from me

It was about 6am on a Sunday morning, and I'd only had my number for a week or so- some old lady called, I think I answered "Who is this and why the f*** are you calling me at 6am?" I'm really not a morning person.

That was 2 hours after bedtime for me then, I closed the bars almost every Friday and Saturday. I've calmed down a lot now, that was 3 years ago.
