i feel ya dude. i had one about 3 years ago. this one was too big to pass.......6mm to be exact. i ended up having to have surgery to get it out. they put a stint that went all the way from my kidney to my.....cucumber. i then had to have that stint for about 3-4 weeks, then a lithotrypsy.

So sorry to hear that-from what i understand they are incredibly painful.

to put it in a little perspective, I had a cousin (who unfortunately died in her late 40s) who had a rare disease that caused her body to regularly produce kidney stones, sometimes several in a one week period. She spent 30 years of her life battling it, in and out of the hospital. There were two known treatments-one she reacted negatively to and the other did not work so she had to constantly live with the pain, or the knowledge that it could happen again at any moment. One hell of a way to have to live.

Meanwhile, hope your pain is over with soon!

"OUCH"!

If you have passed it so quickly from the onset of pain - you are LUCKY!

And yes - it is one of the worst pains you can ever have - I know - I had one for weeks when I was 19 - ended up addicted to morphine/pethadine and had my appendix removed in the process of them trying to work it out what was causing this immense pain (I had the kidney xrays on the first day but someone "missed" seeing it  ) and I passed the stone one night - passing it aint fun and it is supposed to be more painful for men than women - so - SURE HOPE you are feeling better now ....

I've had 2. Avoid the surgery if you can. The stint is hell! I had surgery once and passed the other. The morphine in the emergency room rocks!

sailingagain wrote:Just to add to the month from hell that I'm having, I wake up yesterday in excruciating pain. My abdomen felt like it was being torn apart from the inside out. But it went away.

Today I woke up feeling like someone impaled me with a sword. I go to the ER, next thing I know there is blood where it shouldn't be, I'm being put on morphine, and trying to pass a kidney stone.

Nice, huh? :-?
I feel for ya......I had one a few years back. They looked at it with and ultra sound, then they xrayed it then they did an MRI...geez I have the photogenic abdomen....! By the time they realized that noone had given me anything for the pain the pharmacy at the hospital was closed.....Arrrrrgggggg!!!!! :o So they had to check me into the emergency room, run an IV and they gave me diladid (sp?) (synthetic heroine)....Passed the stone 15 minutes later......didn't feel a f---king thing...!!!! I now understand why its illeagal....

Good luck!!!!

For your sake, SA, I'm glad the month is 2/3 over. "Private parts" and "pain" should NEVER be in the same sentence!

Hope you're sailing again soon 8)
