Guess you missed the incident at Disney World a few years ago where Mickey assaulted somebody. Tough bunch, that Disney crowd. They're lucky they weren't accosted by Goofy.

Not who I was referring to (Mr. Nathan), but at least now I know another BNer's name. Thanks Lee! :D
I must say that someone is sadly mistaken, my name is neither "Joe" nor "Nathan".

What about refugees? Sudanese? Serbian/Bosnian? etc?

Our country has to keep our borders open to them.
Says who? so if EVERY cuban, Sudanese, Serbian and Bosnian found there way here, we HAVE to let them ALL in??? Why have we all of a sudden turned into the dumping ground?
iuparrothead wrote:And what about how much our national economy is dependant on foreign workers? Sorry... but if you like your standard of living, you better hope and pray we don't start limiting immigration to the U.S.
I like my ability to enjoy living (as opposed to being murdered) more than I like to buy abercrombie, and eat at chain food restaurants.... Safety for my family is my #1 priority right now... This country forgot how to tighten the belt like our parents and grandparents did during the world wars... we're too spoiled....

Dumping ground? :o So those human beings are such less that they are considered waste that is being "dumped" on us? :(

Is that what happened when our families came here to the U.S.? They were garbaged dumped here? Curious, what superior human blood line do you come from?

What part of NYC were they in?
I know it's hard to believe for people who remember what it used to be like here, but NYC has one of the lowest crime rates, maybe the lowest, of any big city in the US. I've been out walking in NY and riding the subway at all hours of the night and I've never had a problem. Or felt threatened.

WHY?I SEE NO NEED FOR THEM TO BE HERE :-?
Funny that someone would argue to deny refugees access to a country founded by refugees.
WE HAD ROOM FOR THEM THEN,WE DO NOT NOW.
I'm with Tom 100% on this one. We can't feed, shelter, and employ the people we have here now, and as far as I'm concerned we need to take care of ourselves first. That's where our true duty should lie.
   That is a joke right???

Who's we? You? Me? Yep, you're right... we can't support a huge portion of our current needy population.

But if you knew more or realized the productivity demographic of immigrant and refugee populations you would know that they are more than taking care of themselves. Immigrant and refugee populations are more productive and self-sufficient than most other needy urban populations...because they know they need to work to stay here. They don't ask for hand-outs from our government because they don't understand the concept.
You obviously don't live in my old neighborhood....

I am only guessin here but the Native Americans were none to happy to see immigrants rushing their borders....especially a little later in their history.

I live downtown and work in the heart of the city of Chicago... one of the country's most diverse and multi-cultural cities on the planet. And I wouldn't have it any other way because living in a homogenous society is the most frightening thing I could possibly think of!

The difference is that you used to need a sponser to get into the country and you had to prove that you had a job waiting for you. Now, just about anyone can come here and they can apply for welfare the same day. I'm not saying that's what they all do, but if one person does it then it's one too many.

Times have changed, Ann - just because this country (since you didn't like me using 'we') used to be prepared to accomodate an influx of immigrants, doesn't mean that is still the case. And doing so just because we always have is not a good reason.

Bravo! My grandmother HAD to have a sponsor to come here, HAD to have a job (at 14 years old), HAD to learn english...if she didn't know hwo to read or speak english...she was screwed...She never gave up ANY of her culture or heritage, but incorporated it into her NEW life... There were no low income mortgages back then, there was no welfare for non-citizens back then.... yet her family STILL came and worked hard, and made things work.... we've made it EASIER for immigrants to come and TAKE ADVANTAGE.... (this goes for legal citizens too... see my other post about the WWI and WWII years....)

Disclaimer: I have NO issue with immigrants who are here LEGALLY who are productive members of society, who aren't closing their shades when the INS van drives by... Law is law... it should A) be followed, and B) be enforced...

(and i do lots of volunteer work with immigrant kids or kids of immigrants in a neighborhood that has turned to 87% minority in 5 years from 40% and therefore am not a heartless b*tch, or clueless to the situation, as some may think)
