Little Feat/Jimmy Buffett

Post by botdrnk »

I often hear Jimmy talk about his absolute favorite band is Little Feat. For anyone who is already familiar with Little Feat, what is the best CD for a "Little Feat Newcomer" to pick up? I had my hands on a couple today, a live acoustic from 2002 and a compilation with unreleased tracks along with what seemed like some favorites. Any help is appreciated.

Jimmy, which one would you buy if you could only have one? ha,ha....

Thanks Phriends!

Waiting for Columbus! A two CD concert recording but when they transfered it to CD two of may favorite songs were left out.
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

I also highly recommend Waitin' For Columbus, not only one of the Feat's finest moments but one of the best live albums ever. By the way it has recently been re-released in an expanded two disc edition that now includes the two songs that were originally left out when it was first released on CD but it also features lots of other bonus tracks as well.

THREE WORDS.....

WAITING FOR COLUMBUS!!!

I saw Feat recently at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach, DE and as usual, they were great.

I also Feat numerous times open for Bubba in the late 80's and early 90's.

Tiki --
That's a good one, but I think they were better when Lowell George was still alive. The singer on Let It Roll (Craig Fuller?) isn't in Lowell's league.

I'm also a Lowell George fan. I like some of the post-George stuff but a lot of it seems to have more in common with the softer Cali-rock sounds of the Doobies or Eagles than the nasty junkyard sound of Lowell-era Feat.

For new FeatHeads, once the bug bites you (and believe you me, it will) I also suggest the Feat box set Hotcakes and Outtakes of which one entire disc is devoted to rare Lowell George pre-Feat material.

Well, I bought it. Great CD. Thanks for the suggestion to you all.

With Little Feat being, in Jimmy's own words, his "favorite rock n roll band of all time", wouldn't it be great if he opened in Atlanta with "Oh Atlanta"? I think he'd cover it very nicely.

Anyway....Go Braves.

Good choice!!

If you want to learn some history about Little Feat you could also get...

Hotcakes & Outtakes - The Definitive Little Feat (box set sorta)

I would also suggest Ripe & Raw Tomatos each is a 2CD set (please research these a little they are not the typical CD alot of bits and pieces from the past, some rougher then others.

I only have 1 Little Feat album and that is Dixie Chicken. I bought it about 10 years ago when I was still DJing parties and nightclubs and I bought it cause I kept getting requests for it at a place that I did happy hour at. It is a great CD. I have it sitting with my JB and reggae and steel drum music that I listen to all the time.
