Should Pete Rose be Allowed in the Baseball H.O.F.?
Hubby watched "Hustle" tonight, and they're now discussing whether he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame on ESPN. What are your thoughts?
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

I agree-I don't believe in reinventing history and nobody played harder than Pete.phenwayparrothead wrote:the mans accomplishments as a player deserve the hall, you can't take away his all time hits record, so why take himn out of the hall. Im sure not everyone in the hall of fame is an absolute class act. Not everyone can be cal ripken jr.
However, in the past year or so, I have become so angry with Pete Rose about his denial of what seems to be pretty obvious, and his obnoxious attitude, so I have amended my opinion and feel he should go into the Hall of Fame-----the day after he dies, so he does not have the satisfaction of it.

So let me get this straight.
Pete Rose is not being allowed in because he disgraced the game. He loved to play, he loved to win, he took it too far.
They allow people in who abuse drugs and alcohol. They allow in bigots and honor racists. The Baseball HOF is run by a bunch of hippocrytes.
They ban players for gambling, but beating your wife gets you a slap on the wrist. You abuse drugs? 7 CHANCES!!! What a load of crap.
Not saying Pete should be forgiven, but he was one of the greatest players ever. That should get him in.

Shoot, he's always been an obnoxious SOB. Of course, he still comes in a distant fourth in a two-man race with Ty Cobb on that count.ejr wrote:I agree-I don't believe in reinventing history and nobody played harder than Pete.phenwayparrothead wrote:the mans accomplishments as a player deserve the hall, you can't take away his all time hits record, so why take himn out of the hall. And Cal, while a pretty classy act, isn't exactly simon-pure either. A lot of the legend got scripted by the Oriole front office I have a feeling. He's not dirty either, but I am sure there are a few scuffs and dings that get glossed over.
As for the idea of inducting Pete the day after he dies (or the next induction ceremony), that works for me.

Jackson should be in. Although, there is some question about just how honest Mr. Jackson was. Saw an argument that while he did not necessarily throw the games overtly, he did tone down his performance enough that it would affect a close game. Combined with the other actions by the Sox at the time, it kinda blended into the background.

I still don't understand why Jackson is not in the HOF. He received a LIFETIME ban. He died 50 years ago.RinglingRingling wrote:Touch O Parrotdise wrote:he should have to wait a day longer than shoeless joe has to wait.

kinda hard to disgrace a game that already IS a disgrace.
i've never understood why in the baseball world gambling is a worse thing than drug abuse, alcoholism or beating your spouse
and i am pretty sure the HOF is(or was)supposed to be all about your accomplishments in the game, not what you did off field in your personal life.
just another reason i hate baseball

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

I think he should be inducted and just as he walks up to the podium he should turn around, moon everyone, and shout "the hall of fame can kiss my a$$"
And then go open up his own casino/bar/Hall of Fame type joint accross the street.
Or at least I think that would be disgustingly classic
