I normally say it both ways... literally!

Examples:
"I want to go to the care-i-be-an, ka-rib-e-in - whatever!"

"My kids liked Pirates of the Care-i-be-an, Ka-rib-e-in - whatever!"

For what it's worth-

All of my station people at all 14 islands we go to, including control tower staff and customs, from Port of Spain Trinidad up to San Juan, all go with the Ka-rib-e-an pronunciation.


...again, for what it's worth. But they will also tell you both ways are acceptable.
