Bridge Day

Post by MelliJellyBean »

Anyone ever been to the Bride Day Festival in Fayetteville, WV? It's the largest extreme sports event in the world. They have BASE jumping off of the New River Gorge Bridge!! The New River Gorge Bridge, 876' tall and the world's second longest single arch bridge.

I'm gonna go check it out this Saturday.

No, probably not. You have to be a registered professional BASE jumper to actually jump. I know they used to do bungee jumping off that bridge, but I don't know if they still do or not.

It's pretty cool to go whitewater rafting during the event though! Rafting the Lower New River, the boats end up right under the bridge.

The Lower New rocks! Best ww raft-trip I have ever been on!

We've been a couple of times. Tried counting all the steps, but I always lose my place!

One of my friends is on the Bridge Day rescue team. Thankfully, he's never seen any major mishaps.

Just got back from Bridge Day and it was soooo cool! Nothing like watching BASE jumps off of a 826ft bridge! These guys (and some girls) would just jump off like it was no big deal...some people did fancy flips and dives and each time you're like "omg, omg, is he gonna pull the cord in time?" a few of them were close calls and one guy got stuck in a tree, but mostly everyone else landed safely on a target on sure and some landed in the chilly New River amongst all the rafters! It was so neat! If only the weather had been a little better...it rained off and on and while we were on teh bridge it was so windy and started sleeting! OUCH! We got totally soaked!

This event is definitely worth putting on your schedule next year!!! I'll definitely check it out again!
