I hope he does his next album primarily of songs that are in the likes of "Everybody's Talkin", "Perminent Reminder", "Altered Boy", "Banana Wind", "Blue Heaven Renezvous", "Jimmy Dreams", "Creola", and all of those other laid-back tropical breezy Buffett tunes. I think those are deffinatley some of his best work, he just seems so relaxed when he sings those and just very care-free. Someone once mentioned that those recordings sound "forced" compared to LTC but i beg to differ 100%. I think if he did something in those likes, or in the likes of FSOTW, it would be awesome. But any Buffett album would do

Guantanemera cover
Also it would be awesome if he covered "Guantanemera" and did it in a more laid back calypso-tropical style.. . . sort of like what he did with infusing Coconut Telegraph/La Bomba/Guantanemera on the Havana Daydreamin' tour
I wouldn't mind a continuation in the style of the new album minus the abundance of covers and guest stars. Not that there's anything the matter with those but if License to Chill was meant to help solidify Buffett with today's country music audience and to help re-establish him as a force to be reckoned with, I think that has been well taken care of. I also don't mind the covers that much but I also think they were meant to be a large focus of License To Chill, at least that's one of the many things that makes it such a fun album to listen to to me. Hell, I wouldn't even mind if Mac wrote the lion's share of the new material for the next record, he just has a nice touch that's always lent itself well to Buffett's unique style. And please, more harmonica (no, it doesn't have to "Fingers" but that'd sure be nice), fiddle and that sweet pedal steel.

I think the reason why you like the new album is because you like many of the artists that Buffett covered . . .i dont really know any of them so the album does little or nothing for meJahfin wrote:I wouldn't mind a continuation in the style of the new album minus the abundance of covers and guest stars. The new album would of never reached #1 if not for the guest artists on it...... Not trashing it at all, I think its great....... I happen to think it is a refreshing change and has turned me on to other country artists I was not familiar with.................

I really would like a CD with Creola-like songs... Creola is one of the most relaxing songs I know, I sometimes listen to it before I go to bed to get me in a good mood and to chill me out. And even though Everybody's Talkin' isn't my favorite song, I do like it a lot... I'd like that kind of an album... anything with lots of steel drumsDsilCaribe wrote:I hope he does his next album primarily of songs that are in the likes of "Everybody's Talkin", "Perminent Reminder", "Altered Boy", "Banana Wind", "Blue Heaven Renezvous", "Jimmy Dreams", "Creola", and all of those other laid-back tropical breezy Buffett tunes. Steel Drums > Steel Guitar
The covers are only a small part of what makes the album work for me. You could have some of your favorite songs in the world on a record but those same songs could also be potentially ruined if they fall into the wrong hands. That just isn't the case here. Buffett has always shown pretty good taste in cover material and has a way of making them his own ("Buffett-izing" as he calls it) so I see the cover material as only one of many strengths License to Chill has going for it. To me, it just sounds like he had a lot of fun making this album. Not that recent albums haven't had their moments, they most certainly have, but this album seems to carry that vibe pretty consistently throughout the majority of the record, something I feel like he hasn't done in a very long time. It even works in spite of the things I thought it had going against it in the very beginning such as the vast array of guest stars, they just help to add to the party-like atmosphere of the songs in that vein. Add Will Kimborough, Bill Payne and Sonny Landreth to that mix and makes for one of the best Buffett albums I've heard in recent years.DsilCaribe wrote:I think the reason why you like the new album is because you like many of the artists that Buffett covered . . .i dont really know any of them so the album does little or nothing for meJahfin wrote:I wouldn't mind a continuation in the style of the new album minus the abundance of covers and guest stars. I don't see Buffett as a "modern country artist" either but License To Chill manages to maintain a very contemporize sound without the overproduction that plagues so many modern day country records.
