Which Buffett cd would you recommend to a newbie?

Post by Tiki Bar »

Hi all!

So my electrician came in this morning, likes my enthusiasm, and asked what Buffett cd he should buy since his new truck has a cd player. Not that it matters, but I'm guessing he's 50 ish.

I know some of you would just burn your own compilation for a friend, but if you were to recommend something they could pick up at a store, what would it be?

If you would alter it to different demographics, please explain. Thanks!!!!

Me? Meet Me in Margaritaville for a large sampling, but I think Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays might hook them quicker with more familiarity, including Southern Cross and Brown Eyed Girl.

Fruitcakes is a good one, as it gives a good cross-section of what Jimmy is all about.

I've always thought that CILCIA is probably Jimmy's best and most consitent album. Not a clunker on it! Highly recomended for all audiences

If he seems to like the older style Jimmy, then definitely Changes. If you think he'd be into the newer sound, then definitely Barometer Soup. If he's 50ish, I'd guess the older version would prolly be better.

I'd go with Meet Me In Margaritaville..it gives him a little taste of everything. He's taste may differ like a lot of ours do. Some like the older, mid 80's, 90's,00's over others.

I'm a big fan of both Floridays and Volcano. I never go on vacation with out 'em.

For compilations I'd recommend Meet Me in Margaritaville. As for individual albums...

Early Buffett: A1A
(though it's hard to go wrong with any of the early stuff)

Middle Period:
One Particular Harbor

Current Buffett:
License To Chill

Live:
Feeding Frenzy

I have to agree with you... :D :D
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays is the way to go.. If they don't like that, their not going to like any of his music.....

that is the cd I give to people when they want to hear some JB.....

My experience with newbies has always been to start them with a live album. They seem to absorb the energy of the show and relate very quickly to the music. After listening to the live album a while, then they will ask which other albums they should buy. Why? Because they go to the store and get overwhelmed by all the choices. My suggestion:

1) Feeding Frenzy (listen to it for couple of weeks)
2) Barometer Soup (after listening to 1 above, listen to this one a while)
3) A1A (after this, he should be hooked)

After that, you can sit back and wait for the inevitable next question - So how do I get tickets to one of his concerts?
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

She doesn't strike me as liking folks getting overly familiar with her all at once when they are just starting out..

Friends don't let friends have "Songs you know By Heart"

TTS, Feeding Frenzy or MMIM are a great starting point

Have to go along with what's mostly been stated:

Early JB: A1A

Mid-Life Crisis: Harbour

More Mainstream: Meet Me... or Far Side of the World

Each are slices of life at that point. Still, everytime I listen to it, A1A seems like the best I've ever heard.

My vote would go to MMIM because of the wide variety.
Only time will tell, if it was time well spent!

I'd say MMIM, Banana Wind, Barometer Soup, FSOTW, CILCIA, SOASOAS, A1A, Hot Water

Go live first!!!! Feeding Frenzy or TT&S. I 'd take TT&S only because of the packaging.
