Corona and the Presidential Election
Okay...Jimmy is a big John Kerry fan, so bear with me here.
Y'all may have heard or read that Sinclair Broadcasting Group, with 62 TV stations nationwide, has ordered its stations to air a 90-minute "hit piece" criticizing John Kerry for speaking out against the Vietnam War. It's a blatant violation of the Fairness Doctrine and an attempt to influence the outcome of the election.
Well, Corona advertises on Sinclair stations. Corona is also a big Buffett sponsor.
Regardless of who you think should win the election, y'all should be a bit outraged at this egregious attempt of a few wealthy people to change history in this way. If you agree, please do whatever you can of the following:
1) Politely write Corona at procermexlt@corona-extra.com and ask them to discontinue advertising on Sinclair stations.
2) If you or someone you know has Bubba's ear, let 'im know about this. I'll betcha if *he* said, "stop advertising on these stations or I'll find another beer sponsor," something might happen.
Thanks for listening,
Loren

Good thought, but I'm lazy.
'sides, somebody is gonna come out of this looking stupid and mean.
That's a task made for the media (QED Dan Rather).

Since we manage a few of his accounts, I suppose I could call him up. However...given the amount of $$ involved between Corona and Bubba...I doubt he'll put a stop to it.
besides...62 stations....50 states....not many people will see it anyway

Such is the case this time.
As Jimmy pretty much knows, his audience is made up of people of both political persuasions, and as such, lots of right wingers probably drink Corona too. I drink so much of the stuff, I should buy stock in the company.
Besides, I'm sure most of the INTELLIGENT voters know who they're voting for anyway with or without this movie, and I really doubt if it'll have that much, if ANY, influence on how this election turns out.
Hell, anybody that's undecided at THIS point is so damn stupid they shouldn't be allowed to LEAVE THEIR HOUSE, much less vote.

Re: Corona and the Presidential Election
I agree that this won't make much of a difference, if any, in this election. The people that will watch this and be swayed will mostly be from two groups: 1. People looking for another reason to hate Kerry. 2. People who are looking for a reason to hate Kerry. However, when you consider the bigger picture, this sets a bad precedent. I think everyone should see Fahrenheit 9/11, but I don't think it should be shown over the broadcast networks b/c it is admittedly biased. I do think that Sinclair's decision to air this will add some steam to the push to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, which would be a good thing imo.Wino you know wrote:I'll always listen, Loren, but not necassarily agree.TropicalTroubador wrote:Thanks for listening,

You make a frighteningly good point...
I guess that's why so many outrageously false mailings go out a couple of days before the election...because the people who send 'em figure that if someone is dumb enough to be undecided two days before the election, they're too dumb to stop and say, "This is obviously rubbish."
Me, if I'm undecided on an issue that close to the election, the mere presence of one of those pieces of trash tends to push me in the opposite direction.
Personally, I think that limiting all politicians to two terms - one in office, one in jail - would solve many of our political problems.
Anyway, it's 5:00 somewhere, and Friday has arrived! Be excellent to one another...
