Song Dedications from Jimmy

Post by buffettbride »

Just got to thinking (dangerous, I know)...

...how many live songs/recordings have been dedicated (in a live setting) to someone or something. Curious how many of these we could come up with.

Seems like he dedicated a song in Denver this year, but I can't remember the details.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

I can't remember the song, or even the venue.... (FLL?) but he dedicated one this past winter to the 290th Military Police Company, deployed...

Didn't he dedicate Lovely Cruise to Volcano Lady (Pam) at the Houston show in 2002, shortly after she passed away?

No, he didn't say anything about dedicatng the song to anyone....just played it.
And I cried......

We didn't find out about him playing it for Pam until Amy's thread after the show.

Gosh...you know I don't remember.
But I was crying pretty hard at that time.
I do know Amy said she barely got through the song.....

I remember hearing the "Lovely Cruise" show .
And If I believe it was shortly before she passed as I recall someone saying that she heard about it.
I believe that Amy tried to get Jimmy to play "Steamer" which was one of Pam's favorite songs if not her fave.

"whoever said that life is unfair,
full of pain, loss of hope, and dispair
They must have never took a walk on a pier
or sat in the surf with a book and a beer"
"it's crazy and it's different but it's really bein' free"

Opps Jen---I just got out my concert cd and it was the Dallas show on April 25, 2002 when he played Lovely Cruise.
He just played it on the second encore...didn't say why he was playing it.

Charlotte Feb 18, 2001
Take Another Road was dedicated for the late Dale Earnhardt. And During the Tribute memorial service aired on TV, they mentioned that fact and played Take Another Road.
Very cool, and very touching (was a hugh Earnhardt fan)

At Jones Beach 2 years ago, I don't remember the song, but it was dedicated to his wife Jane for their anniversary, and then he put on a huge fireworks display while Jimmy & Jane stood on stage together....... A great moment & surprize for all..............

Reading this thread reminded me of something that Amy Lee had sent me via e-mail..thought I would share.

This is referring to the "Lovely Cruise" request to Pam....

I don't know if you knew I had at one point back at some point suggested JB to do that song. He said, I love that song. I should but I'll have to learn it. He doesn't remember it you see. SO I knew I couldn't ask him to do it. But had picked Lovely Cruise - and told JB about my friend and her circumstance and basically said, I have a request and you don't have to do it but I'm gonna tell you anyway. I ask if he would play Lovely Cruise. I thought what an appropriate song. When I began by telling him I had a friend that has basically 48 hours to live his face sank with sadness. I asked for that song. He said, I will see if we played in last year here. If not I will surely do it. Then he immediately went to his position and checked the list (this was all at sound check). He came over to my area and said, "Yes I will do it". I immediately lost it and tears flowed heavily. Damn! There was no towel at my mic. I went and got one. He didn't have to do that and go and change his set list. You know? He did it for me to Pam as a 2nd encore. Right before encores he asked if I wanted to play on it. I told him no, I'd rather just listen. He did it filled with such emotion and I was SO moved!!!!!! And so was the crowd.

Later at the hotel we all gathered in the bar. I went and hugged him and thank him. He gave me a kiss on the cheek. And smiled with love. I was moved tremendously.
