I think that if anyone wants to support anybody they should do so celebrity or not.
Although over 1000 dead certainly does speak for itself.
They have just as much right to be upset over this clusterbang as anybody else does.

btw Jimmy is also one of my favorite guitarists, not the best but my fave for sure

Why the heck I'm getting into this discussion, I haven't got a clue. I usually don't want to touch political discussions with a 10 foot pole, but thought I'd offer this hopefully apolitical observation.

With Jimmy Buffett doing well with an album in Country Music, I think the smart business person side of Jimmy - one of the things I most respect - realizes that there are an awful lot of country music fans (and artists!) with conservative points of view. The Parrot Heads will support Jimmy no matter what he says politically. The Parrot Heads, by themselves, have also never delivered Jimmy with a Number 1 album. With the success of License to Chill and the fact that only 2 singles have been released (and there are plenty of songs on the album that are arguably better than the singles released), now's not the time to be upsetting the apple cart. The smart business play is probably to ride the success of LTC and let singers like Bruce Springsteen espouse political views.

While America affords everyone the right to free speech, I'm willing to bet that if Natalie Maines would have realized the consequences of her comments in Germany, she might have done things a little differently. Principles are one thing, but record sales are another.

It cuts both ways across political lines, too. Look at the back peddaling Sinclair Broadcasting has done on the Anti-Kerry documentary as the pressure mounted on Sinclair's advertisers.

As Michael Jordon once said, "Republicans buy sneakers, too."

Pssst. If you get offered that bet, don't take it.

The comment didn't hurt either the chicks album sales or the tour right after.... about the only thing it did do was get them dropped from some clearchannel stations for a few weeks, which says more about the consequences of media consolidation (especially when said media giant is a campaign contributor to one side) than it does about public opinion.

Ironic, because she said nothing that different than what I hear from a lot of folks in Texas.

Me, too. I'm disappointed with a man for almost NEVER publically speaking his mind about politics. Most of the times he does, he's PAID to do so. Pay attention. Most of the talk about Jimmy's politics, have come from other people who happen to be Republicans. Is his music less appealing since he's a Demmycrat? Gimme a break.

Sorry. I need this election to be over. I can't handle any more idiots.

Actually, I worry about people who's political opinions are based on what any celebrity says. Too many sheep and not enough shepards....

That said, G.W. all the way....

Looking at all the political debates we seem to be having lately and by reading all the passion that is in the posts, does anyone here really think that if they became famous, they would keep their opinions to themselves. They are just doing the same thing that we do on this thread. The only difference is they always have camera's in their face.
Good point, Capt. Joe.

Are you kidding?? I haven't heard but one or two Dixie Chicks songs on the 5 country stations I listen to and there hasn't been but a handful of old DC videos on CMT or the other Country video stations since then.. looks to me like she committed political suicide.....

I'm not kidding... it's widely accepted that the "outrage" was coordinated by ClearChannel executives but despite that the tour sold incredibly well after the "controversy." Look 'em up for yourself if you don't believe me.

You don't hear or see any Dixie Chicks songs right now because they're not promoting an album... generally speaking, the bands getting the most airplay/video play are the ones promoting a record. Once the record gets old, it stops getting played.

By the way, back to the original topic of discussion, he didn't say, or even imply that Buffett was a favorite guitarist of his. He listed some styles of music he liked (folk, classical) then he listed a couple artists he likes. It seems to me that some people are just looking for any statement made by either canididate that can be used to insult that candidate. Kerry's a phan, embrace him for that. If you don't agree with his politics, then don't vote for him, simple as that. This is just another example that Jimmy's music touches people in all walks of life, and all political realms. Anyway, that's my 2¢.

I do agree with Lee's comments also. Those that seem to have the hardest time with Jimmy's "politics" are Cons. Those persons ought to reflect on how they can love the music and philosophies of some dude who has such a "lack of family values" (words from the GOP referring to Dems). It's called tolerance...

As for myself, I'm doing what I can to help elect my preferred candidate...but after next week, we all gotta move on.
Just saw two great shows, and didn't have to hear one word about elections.

My wife might vote for someone different than I do. I should divorce her.
Jimmy Buffett might vote for someone different than I do. I should stop listening to him.
