The Fall of Fidel Castro

Post by Desdamona »

The long-awaited fall of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro has finally occurred.
Unfortunately, it only resulted in a broken knee and arm,
not the establishment of the new, free Cuba we're all hoping for. :(
But at the age of 78, we can still hope...
Forty-five years is WAY TOO LONG!!!

CUBA LIBRE!!!!!

I just saw that on the news. They said that they did not run the clip on the state owned stations in Cuba. Even dictators have pride!

Hopefully sooner than later...

Cuba is supposed to have incredible beaches, incredible musicians, and incredible food...not to mention some pretty awesome concotions of classic American steel hobbling down their roadways. I want to go in the worst way but there are too many hoops to jump through with the current political situation.

Cuba libre indeed.

My niece is a political creature who works for a representative in California, they made some sort of a political venture down there earlier in the year....the pictures she took were INCREDIBLE!
Would definately be a vacation hotspot if things were different!
The culture, the people, the beaches.....WOW!
::ditto:: Cuba Libre~

We Canadians have open travel to Cuba and can attest to the beauty and wonders of Havana nights and Varadero days!

When he finally croaks, I hope there is not another dictator in the wings. That beautiful country with beautiful people needs to be liberated. I just hope when (NOT "IF") it happens, they don't go too fast with the commercialism and tourism.

I've had a soft spot in my heart for a long time when it comes to Cuba.
When I was small, my parents would occationally drive by and point out
the mansion that Batista lived in after he was exiled to the Daytona Beach
area. (Howcome bad-guy political exiles always end up in such plush spots?)
Then, over the years I've been friends with Cuban exiles my age (all male  )
who are intelligent, wonderful people who know their roots (and hearts) have
a focus in a distant place that they may never see again. One young man I
dated in high school was the son of a besbal player whose mother refused to
leave her parents when her husband "got out" with the children. Another man,
a fellow pharmacist at work, left with his family when he was 16, and longs for
the day when the exiles can go back and re-establish a thriving Cuban
economy and free culture. It has been very interesting to see the situation
through these men's eyes instead of just the wrangling in Washington
over the sanctions this country maintains against the government and the
commerce there. I just hope they (and I) live to see it change in our lifetimes.

I know for a fact that there are potential terrorists in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The way I see it, that gives us the right to pre-emptively invade the island and get rid of the dictator in charge....

Isn't it ironic that the U.S. government deals with
Fidel's Cuba by totally different rules than any other
government in the entire world? And it never seems
to matter who's running Washington or which party
is in charge. Is there some big secret about that
beautiful and tranqil island that our government finds
impossible to share with us?

Could be those many atom bombs/missiles are still pointed at us. :o Have you read any of Carolina Garcia-Aguilera's female detective novels? Funny mysteries, but chock full 'o' information on Cuba and the Cuban expatriots living in the Miami area, saving their money and owning boats, getting ready for the day when they can finally go back to their beautiful island, and do it up right. The native Cubans and the Miami-misplaced Cubans should be the ones to reclaim the island and redo all the beautiful architecture.

Probably! I got it off a "quotes" web page. I've forgotten the address of the page, but it had some other goodies such as:
  • Tennis players have fuzzy balls
God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit" over "religious nuts"
Have you ever had deja vu? Have you ever had deja vu?
    Boycott shampoo....demand real poo instead
    Visualize whirled peas
And my all-time favorite: I eschew obfuscation!
